A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

All this bunk about socialism and Obama being a Marxist was nothing but smear and fear tactics from a desperate Republican trying to win an unwinnable race. I think we can all agree that now that the election is over, Obama is not a socialist or a Marxist and that comments like the one by this Republican are ignorant and childish and ought to be repudiated quickly and effectively by both parties.
Now is a time for unity, not more bull@!$%#.

You are correct. It's not up to the Democratic party to deal with these nut-cases. The GOP need to be the ones that speak up and clean up their own party.
I understand the politics of the election. But after the election is over our Political leaders need to work together.
Unless the man is truly a nut-job. Then he just needs to be committed and the GOP need to find someone that is mentally capable of holding the position.

Congressman Broun is a complete embarrassment to himself, his district, the House of Representatives, and his nation. It's bad enough that we must endure the paranoid delusions and rantings from certain of our fellow citizens, but from a Member of Congress?! I seriously question the man's sanity. He sounds like a danger and a menace, like the kind of person who could entertain the idea of a political assassination.
Rep. Broun makes that McCarthyite loony from Minnesota, Michele Bachmann, look friendly and cooperative by comparison.

WTF? Could this be a real statement, or an excerpt from an issue of The Onion? I'm nearly confused-this guy sounds crazier than the troll that must live in his head telling him what to say. For shame! This kind of stupidity is why Barack Obama is now the President- we're all sick of stupid people in government, no matter what your party affiliation, on this I think we can agree.

I am not so sure actually if you listen to his speech's he also calls for a "new world order", a "new world economy", he has changed his tune about the IMF with regaurd to Isreal, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in the meeting on Saturday, to really get a jist on how he will conduct his presidency. If he continues to back the IMF we are all in trouble in which case we are screwed, but on the other hand if he walks away from them, all will be good. I don't believe A world currency will be good, nor would a international security force. If he attempts to put forth a security force you can guarantee people will start to revolt and begin the taking back of the country.

Why would this guy be willing to risk his position and such ridicule in smearing Obama after he's already won? I think he might be at least a little more experienced then the average poster on this message board. Can anyone fathom the possibility that he might have a legitimate reason for bringing this up?
The biggest thing about Obama's past experience is his lack of actually achieving hardly anything at all except the fact that he's an attorney which means he knows how to manipulate the law. So why be afraid of him? It's who's pulling the strings that I'm worried about. Bush has been selected to take the fall and be blamed for the cause of a needed "change" even though I don't think he was ever in control of anything.
I don't believe republicans or democrats make any difference. From the way it looks...I think it's been predestined by more global organizations who are at least 100 years old who secretly make the decision for us to go in a direction that will eventually cause the end of the United States and, with their control of the media they cause us to allow it to happen by using psychological, emotional and intellectual manipulation.

That's why Obama wants a national security force under is direct command, so he can "deal with" these "nut cases" Ruby Ridge-style. Maybe he can even use the Nation of Islam for this purpose. They would love to shoot down "nut cases" who dare to disagree with the messiah's communist policies.

I am not a democrat or republican. But what this article demonstrates is exactly what I and some other independent thinkers on this forum have been saying for a long time. I agree 100% with what the Republican congressman from Georgia said. We need to be very careful with the amount of control and power that our government has over ALL of us. All you Obama supporters blasted Bush and Cheney for their passing of the Patriot Act (and I agree 100% with that assessment). But you now need to open your eyes to what is at work today! I firmly believe that this is part of a much bigger plan to consolidate the power and wealth at the top....the global elite!! We need to speak out against this!!

robin hood tactics your a typical Republican "lalallalala" not looking at the real facts putting your fingers in your ears hiding your head in the sand, or blaming the media etc. when you hear things about obama that you just cant believe could actually be true well they are and HERE ARE THE REAL FACTS:
He was not voted in because of his skin color!! More WHITES votes for him then for Clinton, for Carter, For Reagan even for Kennedy More whites voted for McCain then blacks did so they must be racists too I know you may not have mentioned that directly but I have seen this BS argument all the time against Obama, it just doesnt hold water !!lalalalalalalalal
Obama was NOT or ever was supported by Hamas or has Muslim views but typical republican "lalalalalalalal" YOU THINK His name is Barrack Obama SO he MUST be Muslim lalalalalala
Obama is more of a centralist then even Clinton was he is NOT to the left like people like you think he is. LOOK at his real voting record but put your fingers in your ears and don't look at the truth LALALALALA
Hitler was clearly a power hungry tyrant who blamed the Minority in the Country.JEWS, for all of Germany's problems OBAMA IS a MINORITY are you going to tell me next that Obama is a member of the KKK but typical ignorant Republican put your finger in your ears LALALALALALALA
The real truth behind all this is ONE THING ONLY you DON'T like his name and it just KILLS you that" heaven FORBID "an actual Black man could DARE that's right DARE even think he could be president of YOUR country let alone become the president-elect of the Unites States that just really chaps your as# doesn't it the gall "who does he think he is" IS really behind all these attacks but nobody would ever admit it. Can you actually imagine if McCain was president -elect NOW after hearing about all the infighting and name calling that went on even within their own campaign?? It would have been worst then a nightmare this country would have been doomed for destruction!! Before you start saying get a job or claiming that I am on food stamps because I support Obama STOP IT, that is just more ignorant comments. and Yes believe it or not I am White and I do work for a living. by the way every single Industrialized nation on EARTH has universal health care except US. So by your standards every single industrialized country in this entire world must be socialist???? By the way MANY MARINES SUPPORTED OBAMA

CW, got any facts that back up your statement? I personally know a few military types, active, reserve, guard, and retired who voted for Obama since he is for talking to our adversaries instead of just throwing bodies at our adversaries.
If you'd care to take a look at the below link you will see that there was a percentage of the military who did back Obama. The percentage is only about 24% across the services but this is far from your saying that no one in the military voted for Obama. You also have to remember that the military almost always leans Republican when voting for President.

robin-hood-tactics, bigarch, others:
while you see historical parallels between obama's call to service and the manner in which the nazi's amassed their army and military capability, there are some other historical parallels to the nazi party that you are not seeing. Here we go:
hitler was a powerful orator who appealed to emotional fervor by propagating and inciting a mass hatred for others, such as the jews. he said horrible and false things about the jews and kept repeating them over and over, making them out to be a fall guy for all of germany's post-WWI problems, whether this was true or not. he used insinuation and mass ignorance to propagate unrest to the point that many began to look to his kooky slander about jews as somehow true. this is not reminiscent of obama's calm and rational oratorial style, but does mirror much of the GOP/McCain campaign of 2008. now here you guys are, continuing the insinuations and slander that your leaders have incited in you over the past year.
if you ask me, this is a much more apt parallel between contemporary america and 1930's germany. but im sure you will go ahead and build your pseudo-intellectual bridge to nowhere regarding obama and hitler. i just hope that someday you realize that it was the hatred and divisiveness within the nazi party that was the problem, not the notion of civil service.

This is the most outrageous statement yet by the Republican Party. I do not believe this country's people will ever allow a dictatorship, especially like the one's described in this article. The people of this county have spoken. We have a new President-elect. He has earned our respect so let's get over it and give him a chance to show us what he has planned for us. Socialism? Marxism? Nazism? I seriously doubt it.
- 12 votes
I agree with the top comment. This is complete lunacy to suggest any of these issues, as Broun has. He serves in one of the highest public offices in the land and he's spouting childish lies. You voted for him, Georgia. What does that have to say about Georgia?
"...will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship. "
Sounds more like the Bush/McCain mechanations for "national security" and "combating terrorism".
I noticed during this election that the right wingers seemed to have a habit of what in psychology is called "projection".
When they're not stealing someone else's idea and claiming its there own (change), they're blaming there own exact faults on their rivals. Its shrewd enough to work on most idiots but its quite disturbing to to me.
If these attributes were exhibited by a single person, I certainly wouldn't want anything to do with them. Honestly I'd probably want to kick their ass.

All this division. We need to send peace out in this world. Love can overcome all negativity. That's why Ghandi was so effective. Dr. King was more effective than Malcom X because he preached non violence.
I'm not trying to judge many of the anti Obama blogs, but don't you think it would be better to write about things that unite us rather than divide. When you send out hate your delaying the process. Seriously, you may think I'm a nut job, but I've seen love overcome all negativity. I wasin jailfor a few months and sent out humility instead of fear and I was respected amongst other criminals. Peace is infinite. Education and healthcare should be our countries priorities.

Furthermore, i feel we need to begin some sort of program that can remove these people from any position of influence or power and at least have the "Treason" conversation.

The funny thing is that "Blackwater" which most of us have heard of is the product of the Bush years. They are the mercenaries who were paid to protect the oil. They were also used in Katrina. They've been beefed up recently by the Bush admin. Those talking about a new world order, etc., look up the PNAC. They've been around for a long time taking advantage of every opportunity to put their "New American Century" philosophy in place. Its EVERYONE related to Bush making a statement that they are working toward a new world order with a new economy based getting control of oil in the middle east and they tried to get Clinton to do it. These guys are totally machiavellian. Many are skull and bones. All are most interested in consolidating their individual and group power militarily, in their words "even if it took a new Pearl Harbos". I think by now we these people were not bound by ethics or morality. There was nothing they wouldn't do to get the money and power they wanted. Read about it.
Obama is the one undoing the mess.

You are absolutely right!! All this talk by Broun is nothing but sour grapes. What is needed is for all parties involved (read: Republicans) to stop griping about losing the prsidential election and get down to the business of setting things right again. How many presidents have we elected based on prior experience in the position? The only ones I can think of are those who were re-elected after serving a prior term. Or perhaps they are afraid that Obama will actually do an outstanding job as president? Whether or not he does, I think he should be given a fair chance to prove himself. After all, we did elect him to the post (well, most of us did).

You need to think with your head! Forget party line thinking and thinking freedom! The Democrats are pushing socialism and control with all these gimme programs. Obama has been involved with a large number of Communist people, Ayers belonged to the CommunistPartyUS and the two of them were teaching radical views to children in Chicago. Obama yells he was 8 yrs olf.........that's crap. He was involved with Frank Matthews Davis at 10 yrs old thru 18....another CommunistPartyUS member who was brought up before a Senate Congressional Investigation Comm.
You think this is a joke. Well, then you are in real trouble because Obama was quoting word for word a Hitler speech as one of his main speeches to the voters at rallies! His cousin, Obdinga, is pushing Marxism in Kenya and named his own son after his favorite leader, Fidel. Already Obama is wanting to meet with the Castros. Start using your head or you could be dealing with Communist control and King Obama

Representative Paul Broun talks about someone taking away the rights of American citizens. This is political tom-foolery at its best. Paul Broun sponsored a remarkable piece of legislation that thankfully is stalled in committee.
HR 5821: Military Honor and Decency Act, aims to further limit the First Amendment rights of the military community by "strengthening" Section 2495b of title 10, United States Code to protect the service member from being subjected to sexually explicit material for sale in the Post Exchange. ()
This is a blatant attempt to limit the First Amendment rights of service men and women. Funny, it seems to me that they are the very ones fighting to support our rights as citizens.
Methinks it is advisable to know your "hero's" background before you raise him up as the great seer of the future.

Robin-Hood-Tactics wrote:
where did my 2nd amendment rights go ? where did my 4th amendment rights go ?
None of your Second Amendment rights have been infringed-- and they are unlikely to be. The recent rise in gun sales and the rest is merely an articulation of what historian Richard Hofstadter once termed the "paranoid style" of American politics: the idea (usually professed by people who feel under- or un-represented) that there is some big, all-powerful conspiracy out to destroy America, that only they have the "true vision" and we should all rush "to the battlements now!" The man hasn't even taken office yet, for crying out the window...
Is there something in your background that makes you afraid of "common sense" gun laws?
In terms of the Fourth Amendment, I would be more worried about the current administration's attitude towards domestic wiretapping, efforts to monitor library book usage, indefinite detentions, and expanded search-and-seizure powers (some of which, thankfully, have been deemed unconstitutional on just such grounds). The Bush administration put a lot of questionable policies in place in the name of "security", including one of the largest increases in government size and government influence in private life in this nation's history.
In terms of the unfortunate historical analogy that Mr. Broun has put forth, you must look at not only the similarities, but the differences between the situation in 1930s Germany and 2008 America to really make a comparison. The just-ended election aside, America does not have the same degree of civil unrest that the Weimar Republic had, and our governmental institutions are stronger and more flexible-- in fact, far from claiming that the democratic system has caused a loss of pride in this country, the message of our President-elect is that our democratic system can be a source of pride. Obama is not Hitler-- the situation may appear similar, but it is fundamentally different: different time, different situation, different underlying structures.

By the way, today is Veterans Day. Nothing is said in the newspapers or the media about Veterans Day. It is a sad day when we forget to honor our troops and servicemen that died in wars for their Country. The sad thing is that these men and women served and fought for their Country and for Freedom(weather or not you thought it was right) so that Americans even have the right to ignore and dishonor them.

I'm not a republican, but I can tell you that not all Democrats support Obama, nor do we all believe he was the right man for the job. As far as him being a Marxist, that has yet to be determined, but much of what he said in both his book and on the campaign trail can easily be interpreted in that direction. I can only hope that he does not go in that direction because it will lead this country into a revolution.

Yeah... But under Bush, my rights to 1st Amendment rights have taken a big hit. In Wicca, gays are allowed to marry, but he stoked up the Christians to vote in anti-gay constitutional amendments in the majority of the states now. Thanks, Bush, for stepping on my faith and shoving your Bible into my bedroom.
The Republicans only care about the Constitution when it's about things that serve THEM. But they sure did fight hard to keep dead Wiccan soldiers from being buried in Arlington and they tried really hard to keep Wicca from being recognized as a bonafide religion in the Armed Services.
Don't give me the hogwash about how the RNC respects the Constitution any better than Obama.

Don't give me crap! Where was your unity over the past eight years? You only want unity when BO says so. He, BO, is the one that spoke of a civilian army. What kind of unity is that? We still need to stand up and challenge our leaders. We must demand an open dialog. We must not give one man to much power. Remember BO got 52% or the vote. There are millions of good Americans that do not want to live under BO. We also have a voice and just because we want to speak up does not mean we are not unified. To agree alone does not cause unity. We must always challenge our leaders and demand more openness.

I agree the GOP needs to fix MANY things.
But ON the topic of a national police force, I think this is ridiculous. A national corp is a BAD idea. Infrastructure work should be done by companies as always. Security is provided by local and state police. There is no need for a security force "funded like the military".
Bad idea and too much power for the federal government.

But we do KNOW that he hung out with anti-American people, we KNOW that he owes political favors to these people, to muslims, and to MOVE-ON.org...another socialist group. We KNOW that he hung out with Marxist professors and PREFERRED their theories. And we also KNOW that African-Americans and Farrakhan are hailing him as a "Messiah"...which I thought was a joke during the campaign, but now I've beginning to realize that the climate has been created that this man can do anything he wants and his followers will follow him to hell.
Do I think there is a possibility? I absolutely do and he has said nothing that allays my fears in any way.

I totally agree about "the vine" being bias. I have been climbing around here for quite awhile now and I have had and I have seen the number of threads that get collapsed by them. It is really amazing how many collapsed thread are just comments that oppose BO. For an outlet where free speech should reign this place is becoming a BO feeding ground. Only allowing a few comments that oppose "the one." That is how is all starts. This post is a great example of how much of a "cult" following BO has. The Congressman dared to tell the American people about a speech BO gave and he gets torn down because of it. Just like some thread on "the vine."

We can unite behind an ideology, not a man. I'm all for Obama if he does as he's going to do as he swears to do, protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States. So many liberal tenets are blatantly un-Constitution and un-American, liberals will never gain unity with traditional Americans, and that has never been their goal. There has to be an enemy within the country to target to whip up the uneducated masses against. And liberals need rich people to pay the taxes so they themselves don't have to pay their own way. I understand a few good liberal Supreme Court Justices could mold that "living document" Constitution to support any principle they espouse, but the government schools haven't dumbed enough people down yet to overthrow the country even with the support of a liberal Supreme Court.
An Obama dictatorship? Not likely. It would take 12 to 16 years to purge our military of dedicated Americans and plant cooperating co-conspirators, a necessary step in such a dictatorship. An Obama economic national disaster would be more likely. It depends on whether we rag on Obama with the same intensity and mindlessness as liberals ragged on America and George Bush for the past 8 years.
Nobody with any sense wants a bunch of government sponsored community organizer "policemen" or "security forces" intruding on their neighborhoods. At best the idea is dumb. At worst, it is part of a master plan to intimidate the masses. If implemented, it would certainly prove we have at least a dopetatorship.

I see a civilian defense force as another state control. It will allow the left to argue that this defense force constitutes a "well regulated militia" and then proceed to revoke the individual right to bear arms. The assumption of course is that whoever directs this civilian defense force will always reflect the Will of the People, and not explicitly the President, but we know that won't be the case.
- 5 votes
Our Constitution gives us the right to bear arms and for states to raise a militia. Is that any different than a security force?? Broun also failed to mention those white supremacy groups who are as well armed as the military, who has control of these forces?? Who knows what is own their agenda?? If he is so concerned about a Marxist or Nazi takeover he should look at these groups to see the real threat to an internal coup. Their slogans are usually GOD and White Race are destined to rule.

Independent voter, I guess you don't have an answer for the white supremacy groups? And there was no mention of Obama saying this would be a militia, and now Bush thinks this is a good idea. Such a group would not be a police force. BTW have you not noticed how aggressive the police forces are???
- 3 votes
Gene I agree with you on the white supremacy groups. However they have the right to bear arms. The government can not step in until a crime has been committed. All I'm saying is that whether it is a militia, national police force, etc., the President should never be allowed to have that much control.

I'm sorry but this is just what I have been saying for over 6 months that Mr. O is a other Hitler. He will be getting all the guns out of people’s hands as fast as he can. Then he will see that there will be no more elections. Mrs. O made the statement back in the primaries that you will only have vote for him once. That statement made me stop and think. I have said that he was not what he said he was. He has not proven that he was born in Hawaii either. Do not say he had his birth prove on his web site as that is not even good enough to get you a social security card; a 7 year old could have made that one.

So many liberal tenets are blatantly un-Constitution and un-American, liberals will never gain unity with traditional Americans, and that has never been their goal. There has to be an enemy within the country to target to whip up the uneducated masses against.
And yet, it was the Republican rhetoric in the last election that focused on division and identity politics, while the Left presented a unifying message. Thinking that the Right is blameless and it was the Democrats that rearticulated Cold-War attitudes to present the American people with an internal enemy is, in any case, false-- it was conservatives such as Buchanan, Kristol, Reagan and Gingrich that took an ahistorical and limited view of American patriotism and developed it into the full-blown "culture war" mentality.
I understand a few good liberal Supreme Court Justices could mold that "living document" Constitution to support any principle they espouse, but the government schools haven't dumbed enough people down yet to overthrow the country even with the support of a liberal Supreme Court.
We can debate whether or not the Constitution is set in stone or a living document all you wish (my personal preference is for a living document, since I don't think the Founding fathers were arrogant enough to reserve to themselves the sort of absolutism they had recently fought their own war against), and we'll only have to agree to disagree. But that doesn't make me un-American, and I really wish that the sort of tsarist, exclusionary patriotism that rhetoric is an indication of would fade away
We agree on one thing, at least, but for different reasons. Even if I subscribed to the notion that "all Democrats are bad", I have more than enough faith in the American system to feel that any attempts at totalitarianism are destined to failure, from either side. I do believe that the current administration has done far more in this vein than any administration before it. And perhaps that should be a clue-- possibly, the American people ragged on Bush because of his policies and mistakes, not just because he was a Republican. Obama hasn't even started his term yet, and people are already dragging him down. Who then is anti-American? Isn't one of the tenets of this country that everyone deserves a chance to succeed?
Nobody with any sense wants a bunch of government sponsored community organizer "policemen" or "security forces" intruding on their neighborhoods. At best the idea is dumb. At worst, it is part of a master plan to intimidate the masses. If implemented, it would certainly prove we have at least a dopetatorship.
Scan down to #3.10-- the proposed Civilian Corps is not a law enforcement agency, and similar organizations already exist. I noted above the "paranoid style" that seems to exist in American politics. Thinking that there is a "master plan" out there somewhere is exactly the type of rhetoric I meant...

WildWeasel: So if you think "majority rules" is a good enough reason to step on gay rights, then I suppose you would be in favor of leaving the 2nd amendment up for a popular vote sometime. If your right to own a gun was taken away from you by a majority of people who DON'T own guns, you'd be cool with that right? After all, majority rules.

Obama is a socialist and a Marxist, and those two cannot survive long enough without establishing KGB or Gestapo or any other security forces in order to enforce all-people's "happiness".
The sign is simple - if security force becomes accountable to "the One", than establishing dictatorship on the very American soil is in full speed. All dictators used democracies to get their political creature elected, than - to usurp power.
P.S. Who can explain me, why Russian Commies are so openly happy about this guy?

That's why Obama wants a national security force under is direct command, so he can "deal with" these "nut cases" Ruby Ridge-style. Maybe he can even use the Nation of Islam for this purpose. They would love to shoot down "nut cases" who dare to disagree with the messiah's communist policies.

Turbull: With all do respect, I think you'll have a hard time finding a lot of "Russian Commies" on this board. You might find some Russians -- but you'll also find some Irish, Italian, and African-descended people on this board too. As far as "Commies" go, you'll find some moderate-liberals who support Obama, true liberals, and even the occasional self-identified socialist who supports Obama. I challenge you to find ANYBODY on this board who is, in fact, a bonafide communist.
So, word of advice: lay off the borad, ill-informed generalizations. They don't enhance your appearance of ivility or intelligence.

Newsvine bias is becoming apparent. They are not only pro Obama, they are pro censorship regarding anyone who speaks out against Obama.
...
Are you talking about the community here, or the staff, reggie92 and ShaunV?
I see plenty of anti-Obama sentiment on this thread. Comparisons to Hitler, even. I'm going through and restoring ones that were unfairly collapsed, and that number includes pro-Obama comments, as well. The community hasn't self-policed very honestly in this thread.
If it doesn't violate the Code of Honor, let it alone, even if it offends your sensibilities.
I'm doing what I can to make sure the discussion's fair [even if it's not very good]. The comment Turbull-523516 references above me was restored, for example.

I had hoped that this constant interference by the media (on both sides) would abate after the election. It has not & apparently will not in the forseeable future.
Its disgusting to me to think that both sides continue to lambaste each other, when now is the time for non-partisan cooperation.
If I can believe the reports coming from our own goverment/media they have agreed on one thing recently, the only employers that are actually creating more jobs versus laying off are the goverment & health care.
It's does'nt take a brain surgeon to figure out how to fix our countries financial issues.
CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING NOW. REDUCE THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT. REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TAXATION TO ENCOUGAGE GROWTH IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.
how simple can it be ????

I don't think it is the staff. I think it is the community. And I know you can find some that have been collapsed that are pro BO. All I'm saying is that I'll bet over 95% are anti BO. I just think the community should follow the Code of Conduct better. We are on an honor system here and people are quick to get rid of an opposing view. I for one only try to collapse a statement when there is a lot of profanity and total disregard for someone else on "the vine." Not based on what they may say about what was actually seeded. It seems sometimes people get off point and go after one another personally. I think this is when it is appropiate to collapse a thread. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in "the vine" or elsewhere.

And one sees readily what is wrong with the Republican "base", and thoughts like these, vocalized to the press, is the reason that the Republican Party is dead and will not be resuscitated as long as these nut-cases are around.
WmRAllen,
And yet, it was the Republican rhetoric in the last election that focused on division and identity politics, while the Left presented a unifying message.
I don't know where this came from, but you sure did miss the campaign. It was the focus on making history with the first of a certain physical characteristic president that drove the Obama campaign. And any non-black criticizing Obama was deemed a rascist. And divisive tactics? Who's crowd relentlessly called Bush, McCain and Palin dumb and all other horrid names, totally ignoring the issues. We never found out Obama's stance on illegal immigration, gun control, imminent domain, and other issues of importance because the economy was seen as his way to win. Democrats again heated up the class warfare debate, a no win for America. And people of no religion were pitted against those of faith. Any issue of morals and ethics was derided as Christians forcing their religion on others. There is a culture war, not manufactured by the Republicans or religious right, rather declared by the secular left who has invaded our schools and corrupted the curriculum, removed every modicum of discipline and expectation of achievement, and mass produced inept graduates interested mainly in their next score (drugs, sex, or handout). Those things you might consider divisive, like the relationships that Obama maintained and nurtured, like William Ayers the murdering terrorist who celebrated the assassination of Bobby Kennedy and scores of cop killers, and Jeremiah Wright, that black supremicist running a hate filled anti-American "church", are legitimate causes for concern for clear thinking Americans. As are his ties to Chicago political machine hacks and brokers, like the convicted felon Rezko. On issues like taxes and the economy, we had a debate and the people chose. So be it. But choosing in the confines of those issues without looking at the package is follhardy. If you can't trust the messenger, you can't trust the message.
my personal preference is for a living document, since I don't think the Founding fathers were arrogant enough to reserve to themselves the sort of absolutism they had recently fought their own war against
The founding fathers might not have wanted absolutism, and in fact, created a mechanism to change the Constitution. It would be called an amendment. A living Constitution would say everything and yet say nothing under your standards. Rather than try to meet the higher threshold of an amendment to gain what they want, liberals find it easier to rule by judicial fiat based on an ideologue's "interpretation" of The Constitution, finding in it what no objective man can find.
I have more than enough faith in the American system to feel that any attempts at totalitarianism are destined to failure, from either side
While I, too, think this is true, it would be the resistance of the people in some manner that would prevent this from transpiring. Where or when should the resistance start? There is a point of no return, or at least a point of no peaceful return, when events start falling into place for an overthrow. And an overthrow need not be a sudden violent upheaval, rather a slow but relentless dismantling of America by disregarding our history and founding documents and losing vigilance for harm from external sources.
the proposed Civilian Corps is not a law enforcement agency (your words)
"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded". "People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve". (Obama's words)
We don't know what outcome the Civilian Corps is intended to produce. A federally controlled civilian national security force purposely placed in communities should give cause for concern to everyone. How about a block grant to the states and then to the local communities to train and hire those folks, with local control, if we are to even have such a program? Not a chance! Obama wants that control (my opinion). Paranoia in moderation will keep us alive and free (yes, I know "paranoia in moderation" is a non-sequitur).
The Congress should fulfill its role in the checks and balances of government. I'm glad someone is contingency planning. I wish more had done so on the economic front.

Yeeehaaaaw! The ignorance of southern Republicans once again raises its ugly head. Up here in Alaska, there's a run on both hand guns and bullets because of this happy horse pucky. It simply amazes me. Yes, this country definitely needs a WPA type of civilian force. It worked exceptionally well in the '30's and will work well now. And we end up with bridges that don't collapse.
- 1 vote
Ross,
The WPA did work well, back before there was a handout waiting for you whether you got out of bed or not, before the work ethic collapsed into the current liberal Democrat party, before scoring drugs and sex was priority number one, and before lazy liberals decided their efforts should be directed towards dismantling America rather than building it and making it stronger.
Those bridges that collapse -- the money to fix them was pulled from their intended purpose to feed the ticks (lazy liberals). Blame them.

For a screenwriter you are VERY good at discerning right from wrong. However, how much research have you done on 'O'? 'O' and Ms. 'O' stated that they wanted to use their group "Public Allies" as the basis for a Civilian National Security Force. If you look up "Public Allies" and its ideology developed by the "OBAMA'S". It would raise eyebrows and CONCERN over the intent of such a force. A former member of the group 'Public Allies' stated that it is based on indoctrination and intimidation which the member went through. The 'O's' gave a speech to a group a while ago before he announced his candidacy re: 'Public Allies' used as the force. This is not reporting by a nut case but an alarm from the bell tower "the leftist are coming, the leftist are coming" "Sound the alarm", just as Revere did centuries ago.

I can't believe Republicans are still fear mongering even after the election. And why do they always jump to extreme examples of socialism, like Nazi Germany and the U.S.S.R. Why not use more realistic examples like, oh say, MOST OF WESTERN EUROPE. England has nationalized health care and their disabled have a fairly good quality of life. Granted, taxes are a lot higher but the public does benefit from it. Just because the government essentially owns the banking industry now doesn't mean we are moving towards socialism on the scale of the former Soviet Union. We still have a long way to go until we are on par with England. So common sense dictates that we have an even LONGER way to go until we are annexed by Cuba!!! LET'S BE REALISTIC FOLKS

No yelling on the Vine? You people are just plain power-hungry turds.
I used to come here to get an idea of public opinion. The only opinion you get is that of the wacko left! TURDS!
What could be the possible use of a security force as big, powerful and well funded as the US Military within the borders of the US? Certainly not for clean up and rebuilding - don't need that great power and funding for clean-up.
Why do we need a civilian army of doctors, lawyers, Indian Chiefs, policemen, and laborers? Take Katrina, for example. Did'n't New Orleans have scads of doctors, lawyers, etc., living there already? How about we try to instill some personal responsibility in people to take care of themselves and their own communities? Why would we ever have to bring in outside help for such problems. I can tell you why. New Orleans was full of liberals who scattered at the first sign of work.
And the plan to bring in outsiders rather than encourage locals to participate could be for no other purpose than to gain control. Socialist, Marxist, whatever Obama is, he's not American in his ideology and we don't trust him or his followers.
To Serve Man. That is Obama's recipe for America!

Who's investigating his so-called birth certificate now? He was legally adopted by an Indonesian! Minors lose all citizenship except that of their legal parent. Just because he's got an old copy of an invalid birth certificate doesn't make him a citizen. Oh right, he signed a card at the post office to sign up for Selective Service......who checked that birth certificate or did anyone even see it? We all know what great service we get from the post office!

They said the same things you are saying about Hitler. He may not be totally wrong, Obama's former pals had similar ideas. They already took over the media, ACORN and most Americans. We have an obligation to speak up. I commend this Congressman for standing up and telling the American people about BO's comments. All of America must know what they are getting into with BO. It seems without the teleprompter he has no good answers. It will be interesting to see if his buddys in the press will actually step up to the plate and demand answers from BO. I don't expect it but it would be nice to see.

Jack Baum,
It really would be good if we the people were regulated and were able to form a armed militia at any given moment. But it won't happen for two reasons. One, we never regulated ourselves except for having a few privately owned gun clubs and the NRA to keep us in order. And two, if it came time for we the people to take up arms many won't be able to because of gun purchasing laws and two most people don't even know how to shoot a gun.

Actually, I don't really think that the CAC even has to do with being armed. Sounds more like responding in the case of National Disasters on things like emergency medical services and rebuilding infrastructure to me, but judge for yourself:
Create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC): There is presently no mechanism for civilians with special skill-sets (be they doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) and a sense of service, to be trained and organized to help their nation when it needs them. The Civilian Assistance Corps (modeled after similar auxiliary groups in Virginia and California) would provide each federal agency a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in crises. They would be pre-trained and screened for deployment to supplement departments’ expeditionary teams. The creation of such a corps would ensure that true experts carry out tasks such as restoring electricity or creating banking systems, rather than the current practice of expecting already over-burdened soldiers to assume these roles. An Obama administration will set a goal of creating a national CAC of 25,000 personnel.
Frankly? It sounds like they learned a few lessons from Katrina, and this CAC would be a lot better then Blackwater because, call me strange, but I prefer my "socialist groups" without guns and with laws. But again, that's just me.

Is everyone forgetting that the military answers to the President as well. And does nobody get what he is asking for? Our military has been used inappropriately and has been too thinned out and we need domestic security as well. And as long as our military is fighting where they shouldn't be, we will need help at home.

Sick and Tired, is there anything you disagree with when it comes to BO? That is the problem people. BO has a "cult" like following. That to me is very scary. He can tell his followers anything and they will do it. Not only will they do it but anyone that doesn't follow will be cast aside. The idea that all of America must come together because BO is President is outrageous. Where were all these people over the past 4-8 years? Did they just find unity now? If so, don't they understand how we feel? There are millions of Americans that do not want to go down a socialist path. Just because we don't agree with BO does not make us bad Americans. We need to keep our freedoms or we are doomed as a nation. We must always challenge and question our leaders. We must demand an open and honest dialog. And we must never give to much power to one person. EVER!

Good argument reggie92 now, replace the initials BO with GWB and Socialist with Fascist and you will understand the last 8 years.
- 2 votes
Phoenix, I don't recall anyone having a "cult" like feeling about GWB at anytime. BO's movement is totally different. And you have to move on about GWB. He's out. Thank GOD. But get over it. Is this all you culters have to offer. BO is going to be better than Bush. That's it? What evidence can you offer? What experience can you refer me to? How do you know how he will lead? No more factcheck garbage either. The election is over. Yet, no one, well maybe Michelle, knows much about his world views. He has not been challenged by the media. We don't know what he is capable of doing. Here one Congressman dare to mention what BO himself said and you culters just close your ears. It's like he never said it. You won't believe it because he is the ultimate to you. He only speaks of truth when he speaks to you. If someone dare challenge him they are lying. Do not believe them. As a matter of fact, get in there faces and tell them I, BO, am the almighty. You culters better wake up fast!
- 4 votes
I have been awake for a long time. We knew as much of GWB before he took office, we knew just as much about McCain. The Majority of people believed OB just like the majority of people believe GWB 8 years ago. The reason why this congressman is looking silly is because Bush and the Republicans did worst in their 8 years and did take away several civil liberties like Hebeus Corpus, Illegal wiretaps on Citizens abroad. If anyone criticied Bush they were call antiAmericans or Unpatriotic. Now Obama is suggesting that there needs to be a national security agency to help rebuilt infurstracture and help with natural disasters. Since Bush is on board with this it seems to be a good idea. I do not find any wrong with this. It has been stated that this agency with work like the national guard does in cases of natural disasters. They will not be answerable to the Obama. The Army, The Navy, The Marines, The Coast Guard are already answerable to the President that is why he is call the Comander in Chief.
- 3 votes
Perhaps the Black Panthers will lead this military style group that Obama wants. Did you ever think the prresence of two military style dress black men, one swinging a nightstick, might just intimidate anyone from voting or speaking?
- 5 votes
nkorb1, Those two jokers did not intimidate anyone, and the proper authorities did come and escorted one of them off the site, also someone did speak out against it and it was reported first by Fox and later by the so-called liberal media. This was also an isolated incident and did not stop anyone from voting.
Apparently Catherine Heider will accept any old nazi mode of operation as long as it supports HER views.
Pheonix, there is an organization that helps out after national disasters. It is called the Red Cross. If people want to serve and volunteer, they can go and volunteer there. I don't want to have to force my children to volunteer so they can get tax credits to go to college. I want them to volunteer, because that is the way I raised them. Not because it is forced upon them. Pretty soon, that will change to. It will be you need to do community service to be able to go to college.
- 4 votes
phoenix,
as someone who spends 50+ hrs a week in philadelphia at work, with numerous college friends on the P.D., no officer went to those precincts, no one was removed, and yes, over 500 white people were denied the vote.
the afflicted voters, as well as officers assigned to that district, have sworn out affidavits attesting to what happened. the precinct captain has stated that he was told not to respond to the calls of voters being turned away.
- 6 votes
YouGetWhatYouVotedFor, don't you think that having more people available after a natural disaster to help to rebuilt would be better for any community? As to your children, wouldn't they recieve credit for volunteering? There are many young people who are only concerned about themselves, Why is it such a crime for them to help out their communities? Beside many colleges do give credit to applicants that do community service this would help them anyway.
wildweasel, there is video of the police removing one of them. It was on only one polling place. It was reported by Fox News that the police remove one of them. What about the thousand of black people that were denied their vote for so long through similar scare tactics? Your own medicine doesn't taste good, does it?
- 1 vote
If you think this will be used for only natural disasters you are out of your mind. And this is my point about BO. We really don't know what he will do. We just have his words and when he was talking about a civilian army he wasn't just referring to helping hands.
- 4 votes
Dan Cantrell,
Words are usually stronger than actions. Of all the millions of gun owners in this country, how many will actually take up arms? Well those who do I hope they can shoot straight because we are no longer living in a "hide behind a rock and shoot" age. Today a helicopter alone can locate a patriot and a cell phone call can fink them out in no time. And who knows what else may happen in the future other than the laws against firearms which are now ruining our heritage at this very moment. The bio implant could very well become a reality soon and many will accept it simply because "Its the law".
wildweasel,
I was referring "well regulated" as the people regulating themselves, not the government.
And so the Republican war against the Democratic President begins..........just like they did when Clinton was elected.....and it was non stop. The Republicans should be looking to their own house first...........they are the closest thing to the Nazi party I have ever seen. They are going to try stirring up all kinds of rumors and innuendos about President Obama and get people all worked up to try and divide the country...........and they will use race (it is their favorite divide word) at some point. They will have a hard time because President Obama has nothing for them to work with....he is married, he is faithful, he is smart, he is well educated, he does not lie, he is beloved by Americans (minus Republicans) he is a good father, he has a good working record and he not a recovering alcoholic or recovering cocaine user (like someone else we all have know for the last 8 years). The Republicans will continue to make up stories using the words marxist, communist, socialist, muslim, terrorist and anything else they can do put a bad light on our newly elected President...because that is the way Republicans work. They go after people assuming that everyone is like them and has a deep nasty illegal and sinister secret in their closet..........but not President Obama. So take your best shot Republicans........you always were sore losers.............President Obama is a good man and your lies will not effect him or his Presidency.
Too bad Republicans don't seem to get the idea of UNITY.....the Dems gave it them after 9/11, but of course to expect it in return during these hard, confusing and scary times is more than we should have ever expected from the Republicans. Guess the Republicans really cannot change to meet the needs of our present America..........they are still mired in the past and it's ugly war between the parties...............the Democrats want resolution between the parties and a working government that puts the nation and her people first and foremost---NOT THE POLITICAL PARTIES.
Get a clue Republicans or you will never see the White House again............and remember actions speak louder than words (in otherwords we all know you Republicans lie a lot....you need to back up you words with action and earn the trust you so casually threw away).

The people of our NATION has been lied too for so DAMN LONG, it doesn't surprise me that we all wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up and bite us !
Maybe you should stay behind the book of fairy tales and stay there !

Instead of this utter nonsense from Rep. Broun, we should be truly concerned about Blackwater Worldwide, a real armed security force. Want to be scared about the future of our democracy? Read up about those far right-wing mercenaries, their reactionary founder, Erik Prince, and their connections to the Bush Administration and the neo-cons.
- 29 votes
And Blackwater is paid for by right-wing reactionaries. They are the true New World Order which we should all fear. On to the New Jarusalem!
- 14 votes
Debbie, thank you for being the first writer to inject some sense into this mess. When I saw the article, I was afraid this would happen all over the Vine. I'm just trying to figure out who really wants America to fall; you know, "divided we fall"... ? And so many issues that are published lately just serve to divide us.
Now listen. We all agree that we need the best homeland security. Right? We all agree that our resources are stretched, considering the two fronts and other military requirements in the world. Right? And we all agree that the demands on civilian police forces are very high. Right?
One of the reasons we helped win WWII was the formation of Civil Defense. There may be a lot of people who are not aware of this phenomenon - and a real phenomenon it was! - that was essentially neighbors helping neighbors to help America win. It is significant, and not accidental, that there is a Civil Defense Museum. We have mothballed one of the most effective, democratic, and unifying programs that ever existed in our country.
But there are oligarchs in the U.S. who would not like the citizenry to have too much power. Well, sorry. America is a nation founded on the power of each citizen. The irony here is the ordinary citizens who defend their own oppression. President-elect Obama is talking about handing over more power to us.
Let us remember that the power in the back office of President Bush's administration was founded on the principles of the Project for the New American Century. More to the point, it is clearly stated on their web site that they are an offshoot of the New Citizenship Project. Let us remember that the Bush administration and the neo-conservative right have been very vocal in pushing the Unitary Executive Theory.at every turn. Even Governor Sarah Palin was instructed to push concepts that would serve to expand the power of the Executive Branch, which means taking power away from you: the American Citizen.
Sorry this is such a long post, but you guys are worth it.
Just look at it. President-elect Obama has shown a clear record of public service for the good of the majority of citizens. His statements about civilian security should be understod in light of the Civil Defense concept.
On the other hand, the esteemed congressman from Georgia is part of a neo-conservative Republican Party that has spent many years building upon principles that remove you and me from the power equation, handing more power to fewer people. Simple ideas. Please take some time to study them, and engage in some rational dialog here.
- 21 votes
Do your research, Obama does not intend to hand over any power to the people. I have done extenious research especially in the PNAC area, including writing an elabrotive research thesis on the letters to the then outgoing President Clinton and then incoming President Bush. Some very powerful forces are out there, many of which my litttle mind cannot fully comprehend, but none the less, Obama will socialize America if he follows through on what little outline of his ideas he has presented to these citizens who have over zealously voted him in.
*Not saying McCain was a better option, I think there was just a lack of good options here

Omg-I am so sick of all this ! I hear words like "fear, Darkest hour, and now dictatorship!! What is wrong with these people? Someone please tell me I would really like to understand?? So much fear and hatred for anything new!! This great man, Barack Obama has a power I have never seen in my almost 40 years. He has the power to unite people-to restore faith in this country- and to give people an undeniable hope that so many in this land have never felt before. It's like that old song says "there is something happening here"!! Give pres elect Obama a chance!!

And who is this President Obama? And I assert that the reason not much is remembered about the CDC is because not much came of it. The executive branch with its own armed force? Gimme a break!

Oh and don't forget, he is obsessed with abortion.... (god knows why) Oh, I know why, because having a child is a curse... so it is better to kill it than to actually provide for it...

What are you talking about? NO ONE IS OBSESSED WITH ABORTION.
First of all you are a man and you will never have to make that decision!! If you don't want the woman you are with to terminate the pregnancy--GET A VASCETOMY AND SHUT UP!!

Hey dave if you really beleive that there are millions of hungry neady children alive right now in the united states that needed to be provided for, why dont you anti-abortion nuts get on that NOW, they are waiting..... unless you dont have enough guts to live up to your own promises..............
- 7 votes
Dave, no one is obsessed with abortion. Women's rights, maybe. There are too many starving children in the streets, and no matter how hard people may try to be safe, accidents happen. Better than a VP that doesn't think a woman should have the right to choose even if her pregnancy is a result of rape. That is not freedom.
- 6 votes
He doesn't lie? Did you forget his promise to use public financing? He lied right to your face many times throughout the campaign. Sat in a church that preached hatred for the white people, but he never heard any of it.
I don't know about you, but I was raised to take a man at his word until he breaks it, because if he lies once hewill continue to lie.
- 6 votes
And we "only have fear its self to fear". why are so many trying to cause fear and dissent rather than trying to work together to unify and restore confidence and good will?
- 4 votes
You may be right about the Republicans never seeing the Whitehouse again but it will be because Obama never leaves it and pulls a Hitler action. You have not read your history and it is a case of it repeating itself only this is the US not Germany.
I want to hear from you again in June next year after Obama raises the Fed Gas Tax and Cigarette & Alcohol Taxes. It will happen sooner than you think. He's already talking changing 200 things Bush did and Bush refused to allow you to have to pay higher taxes on gasoline. You sure didn't check out Clinton's past did you. Over 100 people associated with him met with odd deaths.....over 12 of his own bodyquards "committed suicide" right!
- 2 votes
So... let me get this straight -- it's perfectly fine for Bush to render our civil liberties and freedoms irrelevant when it comes to his ideas for safety, but if someone claims (falsely, by the way) that Obama will do that very thing, its NOT ok? I just want to make sure I've got the logic right.
Ahem...Did everyone conveniently miss this paragraph?
Obama was referring in the speech to a proposal for a civilian reserve corps that could handle postwar reconstruction efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure — an idea endorsed by the Bush administration.
For crying out loud -- some people really need to get a grip. No one is a Marxist, or a Socialist, or a communist, or a Nazi. No one is taking away your rights (more that Bush has already). And no one is "drinking kool aid" (a statement I find particularly repugnant because of its ties to the Jonestown tragedy). I voted for Obama because Bush sent this country down the drain and we need some new ideas - Obama was the best candidate to help guide our country to recovery.
Goodness... do you realize how incredibly paranoid and ridiculous some of you sound?

Have you actually researched anything about president ELECT Obama? He's not president yet... so until he is , you may want to read his book and do a little background research on the man.
BTW, he's a politician, so yes, he does lie. His campaign was filled with nothing but empty promises and lies that he will never be able to achieve.
If he really does have this nation's best interest at heart, he will do his best to correct some of the problems our nation now faces. But... most likely, he will attempt to turn our nation into his version of socialistic america which will encite an revolution among the citizens. American citizens are not going to sit back and allow him to give all our social security money to the illegal citizens in the nation just to fulfill his promise to these undeserving people. We are not going to let him take the guns that the constitution says we can can have and we are not going to allow his private army of handpicked citizens to spy on us and be constantly looking over our shoulders. We are not going to sit back and let the government own our homes and tell us how to spend our money.
Republican or democrat, it doesn't matter. If you voted for Obama simply because he was part of the democratic party, then you are just one of the many sheep that he shepharded in. If you voted without looking into the man's background, then you are one that prefers to be blindly led about. If you voted for him simply because of the color of his skin, then you are a racist, plain and simple.
It is my greatest hope that the man does care enough about this nation to not create a revolutionary scenario. I'd like to believe that he will bring about the change the nation needs, but honestly do not think it will happen without ripping the country in half. He has shown me no reason to trust him with the country's future. I do not feel he has the country's best interests at heart. I feel his allegiance lies elsewhere and that we as a nation are going to learn the hard way just exactly where that in all too soon.

Bush undermined and underfunded programs that keep the us safe. FDA, CDC, USDA and the EPA are just a few that he manipulated and slashed budgets to meet his agenda. I hope that President-elect Obama can fix the destruction that was caused to this country. And before everyone starts yelling about welfare, I'm talking about agencies that were designed for the health and safety of our citizens.
What a dumb broad! The Republicans will never see the White House again? How foolish and stupid are you Debbie? You must be blond.

Too bad Republicans don't seem to get the idea of UNITY.....the Dems gave it them after 9/11,
Debbie, what unity was there after the close election of Bush in 2000.It was divisive and none productive and actually emboldened our enemy's to be able to strike us .
I only hope they are not looking at us as weak again.
I don't know. I volunteered for the Obama campaign and I support him. The only part of his platform I don't like is submitting to the U.N. (bad idea), and guns. Don't try to take my guns. I know, I know. You're thinking "Why does the average person need an assault rifle, or a .50 caliber long range rifle like the M82 A1?"
The Constitution provides for the citizenry to overthrow the government if necessary, and the Second Amendment provides for the right to bear arms as an organized militia, said the latter being necessary to accomplish the former. I'm a firm believer in the old saying that a man is only as good as his tools, and these guns are tools (or toys, depends on your mentality). Seen the tools/toys the military has been developing lately? Wow...
I cross my fingers, and hope.

The GOP made up the "Democrats want to repel the 2nd amendment" tactic around the same time they came up with the religion angle. It's only a scare tactic to get votes.
It's actually the Democrats that protect the citizen's rights. The erosion of civil and constitutional rights in the last 8 years should have proven that to you.
The US never had a problem with the UN until they tried to stop the Bush administration from invading Iraq. That's when the US starting stomping on the UN.
But the UN was correct. Iraq was not a threat to the US and we should have never invaded their country. And that's why the UN was developed; to keep countries from invading other countries.
$5 Trillion and 4,000 lives later I'm surprised to see that Americans are still not able to see the whole picture.

The founding fathers established the 2nd amendment to protect us from tyranny. Domestic tyranny. 200 years ago, hell even a 100 years ago, it was a great guarantee that the govt could not turn on it's own citizens. The army had machine guns and cannons, and that was about it.
Today this jazz about guns insuring democracy is no longer a valid argument. I wish it was, but reality is reality.
Today, the Army has tanks, Strikers, MRLS, artillery, aircraft...on and on... so, unless a sizable portion of the armed forces sided with the people against the govt, should the govt ever turn on us like the Alex Joneses of the world claim they will, the people would just be toast.

Well Tom that makes you out to be a moron. You work for a man who has made no bones about being an anti-gun nutcase. Now that your hero has the power you HOPE everything will be OK. Maybe you can be one who goes down with your gun in your cold dead hand but I think you will be one to give it up as soon as your hero demands the 2nd admendment be ignored.
And LU-404506, if you believe the UN has ever been right about anything then you also are a moron. Ask the millions in Africa who have been slaughtered under the protection of the UN if that fine agency cqn do anything other than collect money and make itself rich. Also if you believe the Democratic party has ever protected the rights of citizens, then you are living in a dream world. The dumocratic party is now made up of communists and socialists that believe you cannot take care of yourself and need the government to wipe you hiney and feed your baby. Wake up before this great nation becomes another welfare state like Europe and where we have to be careful of what we say in order not to offend a muslim.

How about the $860 billion of our taxes that he wants to give to the UN to distribute to Africa for their education, did you agree with that part? He said that too, but CNN, CNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC never told you about that.
Did you agree with the fact that they tried to brainwash the Mexican community by airing the democrats National convention on the Mexican tv stations but not the Republican convention (I am a Mexican). Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, etc., etc. do this to control their populace. Oh, CNN, CNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC never told you about that either.
Look these facts up for yourself.
They will probably try to shut me up or check my files (just like Joe the plumber after he dared to question the one) to see if I owe the IRS or child support.
Get used to it for at least 4 years.

Patriot.........you're right and the Cubans in Miami kept telling people in this country that Castro did the same thing and made the same promises.
Well, being an Ohio resident, I can tell you that our Democratic governor Ted Strictland ordered the Joe The Plumber be investigated after he dared to ask Obama a question that did shine his halo. Strictland is kissing a.. because he wants to be a Senator!! I didn't vote for him last time and I sure won't next time. Strictland has done absolutely zilch for Ohio and our roads are falling apart but the tax money collected expressedly for road repairs isn't being used that way at all.
We do not need a civilian service unit........we have the Natioanl Guard.......it was Clinton who cut our Army to pieces and Obama who thinks he can cut it more. Let's just let him bare our asses for his muslim buddies to move in and take over. Oh, you say he's not a Muslim........sucker! He said it in a taped interview "I am a Muslim" in the same interview he said the most wonderful sound he ever heard was the Muslim call to prayer being sung daily!
You voted for a Muslim and you are going to regret it. What have you done to your children's right of freedom? Do you think they won't go into the schools and start teaching our young these views when they have already made promises of money for education. What kind of education? In the part of Indonesia Obama was raised in it is mandatory that ALL school teach Muslim..........even the Catholic school is required to teach courses in Muslim Religion as well. So, now, think about your new president you voted for..........he said "Oh, I went to Catholic School" His classmates said he recited the Koran in front of class at the Catholic School which is a right reserved for only the most devoted Muslims.

Tom Joad,
Good to talk to you sir. Did you know any of these nasty little secrets/rumors abot Obama? Or were you just lulled to sleep? Did you do any research before helping him?
- 2 votes
Last: I find your comments offensive. Not to mention untrue and bigoted toward those who practice the muslim faith.
There are millions of Muslims living in our country -- Citizens of our nation... no different than you or me. Raising families, going to work, contributing to society. There are muslims that are in Iraq and Afghanistan as a part of our Army fighting for YOUR freedoms right now. There are muslims who have DIED in these wars for your freedom of speech that you just exercised to attack them.
I am completely sick and tired of this nastiness surrounding the muslim faith. It is a very peaceful religion with a few nut jobs who interpret the koran differently (just like some nut jobs interpreting the bible differently)
Obama is NOT a muslim, but if he was, why is that a problem? Is there a line in the job description of the POTUS that states that you cannot be of any religion other than Christianity? Does the first amendment of our constitution not give us the freedom of practicing religion? ANY religion?
Not all muslims are RADICAL muslims just as not all Christians are RADICAL christians (you know the ones who wear white sheets and lynch those not like themselves? or those who bomb abortion clinics? -- I consider these Christians terrorists too...).
Only a very small number of muslims hold these radical beliefs, yet you are willing to demonize an entire religion based on a few (very very terrible) groups. Shame on you.
I wish people would educate themselves before opening their mouths.

R - in case ya didn't notice, Obama won by majority. Most of my family had to leave Ohio due to it becoming a rust belt state, starting like 30 years ago. Reagan sucked. So what if Ohio is a Christian state? Even more reason to vote for Obama, since he is not a divisive right wing nut. You got the wrong location on the welfare receipients - those are all over on Wall Street. Well, them, and GM pretty soon - how do you like old Georgie's tax bill? Enjoy.
DDO50 I like George's tax cuts. It was the Dem's in Congress that took a big bite out of my family.
You do make a valid point, that more companies should be privately owned. I worked for a company in Solon, Ohio....that was privately owned, never put on the stock market. They always faired well even in economic down turns.

LU-404506 you are wrong.
The Supreme Court of the United States narrowed upheld the individual right to bear arms this past summer by ONE vote in a 5-to-4 decision regarding "well regulated militias".
Obama will likely appoint TWO justices in his term, and by default overturn the 2nd amendment. He may not have this as a public agenda, but he will be the enabler.

LU-404506 Regarding your comment #5.1
"The US never had a problem with the UN until they tried to stop the Bush administration from invading Iraq. That's when the US starting stomping on the UN."
I think perhaps you are in error on this one. If you check, the US has had ongoing problems with the UN pre-dating the Korean War. There been a variety of issues ranging from who should represent China, to you name it. So I would say, perhaps it would be more correct so say that in the time you can remember the US never had a problem with the UN... That may be a stretch because there were issues related to FRY and the Peace Plan for Serbia in 1999 with more disputes to follow, the fight over several issues in Lebanon. I think there were also some terrible disputes over the issue of Palestine and the State of Israel (might be too early). I could go on but I think you get the point. I concede there might be some inaccuracies in the above, since I did it from recall. I am fairly certain it is essentially correct. You should research it; it is a very interesting topic. I wish I had more time to do so.

Let's start with warrantless wire taps. We were told that they were only listening to foreign nationals on the phones, then came that they were listening to American citizens overseas phone calls, then came word they were listening to calls that originated and terminated inside the United States.
The liability issue worried the telecoms enough that they basically forced the government to guarantee them immunity against any lawsuits filed by American citizens. The telecoms knew our rights were being violated.
How about secret courts? How about Guantanamo? How about the gov't can "just say" that your crime is terrorism related and you can be held for an unlimited time without access to an attourney or your family? We are a country of due process, at least we used to be.
And Obama is a Nazi? So what say you to the present administrations tactics? Say the only thing you can say, there hasn't been an attack on this soil since 911. Guess that would be the evil doers testing the mettle of a president in his first term.
All the signing statements? The laws passed by congress are fine for you and I but there's no reason the leader of the free world should be held to them? Yeah, you worry about what Obama might do - I'm worried about what the present administration has already done - they pointed us down a slippery slope...

I agree that argument is a "false choice" logical fallacy argument- But um.. But I believe the question was what liberties did you lose under the Bush admin? How many people do you know personally that ended up in Gitmo or Guantanamo Bay? On top of that, liberals do the same thing. They believe if someone didn't vote for Obama the Savior, they must be fans of GW. WRONG! Like me thy just don't trust burnished, smooth talking, erudite, snake oil salesmen who is enamored with class warfare and socialist doctrines.

35 illegal acts by the bush administration. Brought to the attention of congress in the last two years twice, for impeachment proceedings, but Bushes bitch, Pelosi, shot them down.
Bush has done nothing BUT violate National and International law over and over again.
I for one believe in the elctoral process. Go President Obama, the MAJORITY put you in office by a MANDATE! WE support you, OUR PRESIDENT ELECT!
- 5 votes
Kevlar, I personally do not know, but is that really the point? The question was what liberties were lost and I named a few. I do not have to experience the issues myself to lose them.
Should there be actions taken against gun laws under Obama, I, personally will have not lost anything, but that does not mean there wouldn't liberties lost by someone somewhere. Plenty of folks are crying foul over this already and the man doesn't take office until January.
Americans lost liberties under Bush period. Whether or not I was personally affected is of no consequence, I could have been as could have you. Can you without hesitation say that any phone call or email you made or sent in the last couple of years was not listened in on or read.
Remember "then they came for me and there was no-one left to speak up" (or something close to that). I will speak up for others now and hopefully it won't get to me, or you. I'll stand up for your rights and liberties regardless of your political persuasion, it's the American thing to do - to deny that these things have not taken place is irresponsible.

Obama will be gone in 4 years. His policies will prolong this recession and maybe cause a depression. Like Clinton he will diminish our military strength by cutting military spending and he will increase all of our taxes (Social Security and Income) as he is raising the Social Security Tax and all workings Americans pay that tax. A college study just released has said the New Deal program extended the recession by 7 years and Obama and the Dems have said they favor New Deal Style Programs for us. TheMajor Media outlets will not report the bad news to you for the next 4 years as they are the one's that swayed your opinions purposely to vote for Obama. The Dems are trying to pass regulations to stifle the media that speaks against their views (Sounds like a dictatorship to me).

Social Security is an obligation to seniors that must be paid - they've been paying into it for years, and they are expecting a check. It, and Medicare, are close to running out of funds. How is ANY prez to pay for that, do ya think? It's why they call SS the "third rail of politics", and I predict, by the time I am ready to draw - in 15 or so years, that by then, only those "poor seniors" will be getting anything, and that won't be my and mine.
As far as the military goes, they can't cut back and bring soldiers home fast enough to suit me.
There already is a civilian force. It's called homeland security.
- 2 votes
Oh, don't worry about social security. The democrats in Congress have already found a way to re-fund social security. They are going to first take away the tax benefits of our 401(k)'s and then they're going to do us the favor of stealing our money, putting it into social security, and paying us 3% annually on that amount, and that is what they will decide to send us a check from. Aren't the dems great?
- 3 votes
I don't have a big issue with paying SS and Medicare to take care of our elderly citizens, but I'll be darned if I'll pay it to care for the illegal immigrants that need to be shipped back to where they came from. I realize that the US is a nation of immigrants, but if they are not here legally, then they should not be getting ANYTHING from our government. The citizens of the US should not have to work our butts off just so our money can go to programs for people that do not contribute in anyway to our society. Let them go back to their own countries and put their hands out to their own government. If they want to be here, let them do it legally and let them speak English and let them contribute to society by working and paying taxes like other citizens.
Instead Obama wants to give them all a handout from funds that are already depleted. There are American citizens that have children they can't feed and he wants to give our tax money to non-citizens. It's time for America to start looking out for it's own. Stop feeding the children of foreign countries and feed our own. Stop fighting other country's wars for them and start caring for the people within our own borders. Bring our soldiers home and we won't need a civilian force to protect our citizens.
With our nation is such debt to foreign countries, it's time that the American government pulls back our foriegn aide and gets itself back on our feet financially. We can not continue down this road of debt and succeed as a nation. We must look to our own house and clean it up before we can help others clean up theirs.

By the sound of the left, if I criticize Obama, then I MUST be for McCain. I see George Bush has got you trained. The world is not a simple dichotomy of ideas. GWB was the worst thing that could have happened to America ( except maybe the importation of slaves ). Throw NEOconservatism in the trash and bring back the real thing.

these idiots can't believe that mr bush took the country to the brink of marxism and dictator ship than ever, but he is white. and that is all right.
he did not have enough sense to realize that Mr bush was trying to be king bush, cw404933 wants to keep his gun, the time for him to use them was the last eight years, but we have a democracy, we can vote for those we want in office, so don't be an idiot.
I agree that Bush and Congress wrongly took away some of our rights. Let's hope that Obama restores these rights instead of acting to take more of them. And if he tries to take more rights, lets see if those Obama supporters are with me and vocally object.
Your first test will be with the so-called Fairness Doctrine. Will you step up and criticize democrats if they attempt to pass this blatantly anti-1st amendment legislation?
Your second test will be when democrats attempt to ignore the 2nd amendment and pass anti-gun laws, or to tax the hell out of ammunition as a way to circumvent the 2nd amendment by making it virtually impossible for citizens to afford to operate a firearm. Will you step up and criticize your government then? Or will you sit in silence because it is YOUR party that is taking constitutional rights away from your fellow citizens?
Remember, if you remain silent when constitutional rights that you don't agree with are taken, the government will eventually get around to ones that you DO care about.
We pay legislators (with our taxdollars) to represent us and to follow the Constitution. We did not hire them to become dictators and rulers and to search for ways to get around the Constitution. Regardless of political party.
A national security force? I think it's called The National Guard, been in place forever...
This just one more right wing nut job the GOP needs to purge from the system, it's a**holes like this that have run the once mighty GOP in the ground...
- 12 votes
EXCUSE ME ! I think the last time I heard was that the 3rd Inf Div. was an ACTIVE MILITARY UNIT , NOT national guard ! I could be wrong cause everything changes like the growing pile of @!$%# that GWB is leaving behind !
the national guard is state comtroled. for it to be federalized takes an act of congress.
- 4 votes
National Guard units across the nation are on "Active Alert" due to the fact that we have two wars currently going on. They are, unfortunately for the members, not cosidered active duty. My father, a 27 year veteran of both the Marines and Army, was an Armor mechanic who helped conduct battle situations in Fort Knox using Bradley Tanks and Howitzers. He referred to the National Guard as the Army's janitors seeing how they removed the targets after rounds demolished them.
I don't think Obama was talking about the National Guard:
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."
- 3 votes
The National Guard has been sent to Iraq, in case you haven't noticed
- 3 votes
From what I have read, the National Guard is stretched very thin and being used overseas. What would we do if something happened here? Call back the National Guard? I bet that wouldn't happen.
Better hope that they do not use BLACKWATER ! They remind me ( from history ) like that of Hitler's SS Troops !
Even the MILITARY is not suppose to be ABOVE THE LAW!
- 1 vote
Blackwater was setting up in the outlands of San Diego, and their "neighbors" weren't too happy about it.
This guy the one in Georgia that made these statements is an idiot! I live in Georgia and I hear this crap everyday. The Republicans haven't stopped yet. They have lost the election and the same old redneck crap he is speaking here is what I still hear every day. I had a lady tell me that Obama didn't have an American birth certificate and he was a Muslim. I told her to stop believing all the crapola that is on the internet.
Obama was correct when he said that when things get tough people cling to religion and guns. Look at how Americans are proving him right. Guns are at a all time high in sales. Actually, people are buying guns before food and gas. We have always needed a form of gun control that was effective. None of the laws in effect right now work! And why do we need automatic or semi automatic weapons. You can't hunt with them! We all know it . If you were a victim of a gun crime you would be screaming bloody murder right now. And let me make one thing clear Black people are not interested in a Revolution. We aren't buying guns. Look at television and look who is in the stores. White people only so it seems.
Obama being a socialist! This is the same kind of crap Sean Hannity and many other REDNECKs that tried to put fear in those that leaned towards Obama. These people have to stop preaching HATRED! If they don't this country will never heal.
I say this, wouldn't it be ironic if it took a BLACK MAN to bring respectability back to the United States of America and got the books in order? I think all this Socialist crap is all about hoping Obama does not succed. Personally, I think he will surprise everyone in a positive fashion. Give the man a chance before you lay your racist overtones on his Presidency.
- 17 votes
Of course you can and do hunt with semi-automatic weapons. And we have been doing so for over 100 years.

Badasie,
I agree with most parts of your comment but I disagree with your Redneck label: A man should not be judged by the color of his neck, but by the content of his character. (...Say what?)
That being said, I find it sad to think that this congressman has been elected by a majority in his state.
- 3 votes
It is not often you get to read something of substance in these article, but this was truly one we all should pay close attention to. We as Americans need to stop this childish bickering and see the truth....America is one of the most racist countries in the world. We cannot make on our on so we begin to step on others to make ourselves look great and powerful...This is the American heritage that we as a people continue embrace,it is not the one we need, but the one continue to use.Come on....white and black stop the hatred............give this man the opportunity you gave Bush...no one is after him after all the ill he has produced in the world.....Under his watch we a now the most hated country in the world...even our allies hate us as well as being embarrassed that they are associated with us.........let there be freedom for all of us...not just a few

Mo - well said, but when idiots like the guy in Georgia start saying such obscenely ridiculous stuff, well, people get mad. I'll bet that twit got an avalanche of mail/email today.
DD5Q You are brain washed!!! You don't know your history. You don't know the issues!!! You don't know anything about politics!!! And you don't know your Bible!!!
I believe Jesus is coming. He will clean all this muck up. But, in the mean time....don't be stupid.
Ha ha ha - You all better hope Jesus does not come, you'll be the first in line for judgement. Sorry, I do not believe in all the stuff in the bible, written more than a hundred years after Jesus died, and selectively put together by the rabbis/priests of the day. Don't be stupid? Wow, how Christian of you, I feel so much better now to have been enlightened - not.
Badasie: You have your illiterates in your party as well.
However, we do NOT know if Obama is muslim...we do know that he has muslim roots. He was born in Hawaii, but Obama was NOT raised in the United States. Most of his growing up years were in Indonesia. He did begin his education in Hawaii, and it had just been made a state. Before that it was a territory of the United States.
It is not whether or not he is a Muslim that troubles most of us. Neither is it where he grew up that troubles us. It is his associations...who he was attracted to. Where his ideas came from. And from everything we're able to find out, his ideas came from such people as William Ayres, an American domestic terrorist. I am shocked that we are allowing this criminal to teach in our schools, to further his ideaology in young minds.
I want to be comfortable with Barack Obama, but I'm sorry, he hasn't even attempted to allay the fears of a whole lot of Americans. He made this statement, and he has made the statement in his own book that he hung out with Marxists. That is enough for most people to be uncomfortable.
- 2 votes
Badasie-
It's got absolutely NOTHING to do with race. Why is it all the black people want to say that the reason a lot of people don't trust this man is because of the color of his skin? Good grief! I don't care if he's purple with pink polka dots, it does not change what he's promised, the statements he's made or what he wrote in his book. It does not change his background or his beliefs, which are not in the country's best interest. Some of us actually care about what happens in our country. We don't want it run into the ground any more than it already is. We don't want to live with a Nazi wannabe in office. We care about our Constitutional rights and freedoms.
I do not care for Bush or what he's done to our nation, but feel it could have been worse. I am not a Republican. However, Obama has made too many public statements that do not bode well for the US and point to him attempting to turn America into a Socialist country. This is not what we need or want. If this happens, we may as well all pack our bags and go to Canada.
Unfortunately for the America, our choices were far too slim during this election. McCain was not the right man to run against Obama, but many, including me, felt he was the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, he selected the wrong person as his VP and because of this was unable to defeat Obama. I'm not saying he would have been the best person for the job, but at least we wouldn't be worrying about our country becoming divided to the point of potential revolution as it appears to be heading towards now.

DD050 You better laugh now while you can. I used to have a cousin that sounded just like you. He died a horrible death. Not bashing you, just telling you the truth.
Is it better to tell someone the truth, & try to help them? Or is it better to sit silent, as not to offend them?
Ha ha ha, calling someone stupid is bashing, sorry. You are funny tho', so much for trying to help - and anyway, "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions". See, I believe the teaching of Jesus as a good, healing, entity, while you sadly got brainwashed with the ol' "Fire and Brimestone" nonsense of an avenging God - which I put right up there with the Muslims as sanctimonious.
I actually try to be helpful and kind, but a sinner as was Jesus, sometimes I fail. Oh well. And maybe it is better to be silent if you are beating your head against the wall, I think - my brother got on the holy roller machine, he has been sucked in to some southern brand of fringe religion - but now he and I agree to disagree. Religion is off limits to he and I, to keep the peace.
Oh does the paranoia run rampant. Pity the ignorant.
- 8 votes
To Chuck-295246,
Fear is a powerful tool for those who manipulate
Fear and paranoia have often been used as the main tools to keep us in line:
- The fear of God(s) armed with "extreme weapons of mass destruction" such as brimstone, Hell, calamities, Armagedon etc.
- The fear of Eternal Damnation: After death, if you have been bad, God will torture you for the "remainder" of eternity.
- The fear of conjured up enemies: "The boogeyman is out to get us.", "Who is that guy?" "Who is he really? Hmmmmn..."
- The demonizing of those that are different from us - This has been the most prevalent and most despicable tool in human history.
This sad list could go on and on.
Yet there are some beautiful transcendental substitutes for this monster called Fear: Compassion as in seeing life through thy neighbour's eyes; a taste for Good for goodness sake; an unhibited love of what is positive. The simple will to build instead of to destroy etc.
This positive attitude does not imply seeing life through rose-colored glasses. I am not a naive Utopian who will hesitate to knock your head off if you cross me - but I will certainly not knock your head off as a "Preventive measure". But i will not hold, without objective scrutiny(...), our cultural differences against you. But I will not give credit to speculations on your possibly bad intentions unless - or until - given proof.
A question nags at me: Does that make me a Democrat?
- 12 votes
Yes, pity the ignorants who refuse to even entertain the possibility that something could be about to happen right under their noses. When it happens, how do you stop it? The German people didn't know how, because by then it was already happening. But they could have stopped anywhere along the line. You have to have an awareness to do such a thing.
- 2 votes
are you talking about overthrowing the government, if you are that would be treason sir. in this country we have a process, it is called the vote dummie, put your guns a way and let your mind go to work. we are the best country in the world and you talk like you are unhappy with it. (move)
Obama has a lot to learn..but
First of all, over the years, the US military has built up a very cozy military-industrial partnership (mentioned by Eisenhower way back when). And, they and their spokesmen are loath to let this perceived "lifeboat" float away, with all its benefits, perks, guaranteed post-retirement civilian government employment for life, etc.
On the other hand, there is ample evidence that totalitarians always seek to gut the military and replace it with their "Brown Shirts" "Red Guards" or other louts that only owe their allegiance to the leader...not the country. Recent clear examples have been the Nazis, Italian Fascists, Russians, Cubans, and the latest, the Venezuelans and Nicaraguans. This is the first sign of trouble.
Hopefully, our system will have the three branches of government passing on anything so controversial. Any such system will have to pass the public's scrutiny..I wonder if the press would be unbiased in this? The military has been used and abused by the Republicans and especially by Wildman Rumsfeld who did his best to destroy the concept of a National Guard and Reserve. They should not be used for all the jobs they have been given.
We have a much stronger country than was post-war Germany, post-imperial Russia, post dictatorial Cuba and Nicaragua, and the moribund Venezuela. All these countries were ripe for the picking by the parasites that took them over and further destroyed (are are still destroying) them for the sake of a closet harelip (Marx) and other false prophets.
America needs help, and I am willing to see what Obama can come up with. Hopefully he will do a good enough job to generate another term. A lot is riding on his shoulders, not to mention the credibility of his race's ability to produce a good American leader.
I didn't vote for him, but he does deserve an American chance. And until he disproves this, he should be given that chance.

mean - That means that this guy has elected Obama to be the honorary representive of the ability of all persons of African descent to do a good job. (I know, that was a retorical question, but I'll go with it.) Wow, huh? Bet Obama didn't know he'd get saddled with that too.
Sadly, the economy sucks so bad, Obama will likely last 4 years, like poor ol' Jimmy Carter, from Georgia. Guess that Georgia repug still isn't over that? Too bad the politicians like him drove off moderate voters from the Republican party - he and his right wing nuts can just keep losing, until they get an attitude adjustment.
I will be a whole lot more comfortable if we leave in place enough Republicans and independents with an American bent, to keep the dem/libs in check. So far they have the 51 needed for a simple majority in the Senate, but they can't get the 60 needed to prevent a filibuster. Those are the tactics that were used by the dem/libs for the last 12 years to prevent Republicans from accomplishing what they wanted. Democrats don't want to work WITH Republicans, and it was them who invoked this little used rule regarding a majority of 60 to stop a filibuster, when the Republicans attempted to filibuster. The Democrats were in the majority at that time. It never occurred to the Democrats that they could have their own tactics turned on them. So, now we have to be sure that the Republicans have at least 60 in the Senate and we need more in the House.
I'll be very nervous until the next election. Notoriously the party in power loses alot of seat at the mid-term.
But I am very nervous right now because Obama has already expressed a desire to change our Constitution and there are a number of democrats who will be more than happy to accomodate him. It is my great concern that having elected him, we may not be able to get rid of him. Has anyone looked at Bloomberg lately.

I have a pacifier I could send him, my 2 year old g/grandson no longer needs it. He out grew it. Maybe this congressman with his infantile pouting and blame could sit in the corner with the pacifier in his mouth. First he would be calmed down, secondly he could not rant, rave and spew his scare tactics with the pacifier in his mouth. Always seems like the losers have the loudest voice with the most outrageous misinformation. I was very young during WWII but, I remember the Civil Defense, remember having to pull down our shades to keep the inside lights from being seen outside. Curfews, etc. I felt safe knowing that we had the CD looking out for our safety. My Dad was in service so it was just my mother and brother and myself and I can tell you honestly I did not resent the curfew, shades pulled and all else. Most of all did not feel and still do not feel that it was a Gestapo tactic. Felt it was to keep us safe. And I say thank you to these men and women who belonged to the CD, years much too late to tell them in person, but the thank you is still there.

BO did. Why can't you culters just watch and listen to what you leader said? Is it that hard to believe you were fooled? You continue to attack anyone who question "the one." Just look at the facts. BO gave the speech not the Congressman. We need our leaders to step up and inform us of what is being said and what our other leaders are doing. I for one want more transparency.

This gentlemen's service to his country in the military is to be commended. His service as a medical doctor should also be commended. But, his ideas, which he has a right to hold, are extreme and dishonor the wonderful country that I also served in the U.S. Air Force. It is sad that in a Democracy he, and others, cannot be gracious when they lose an election. Our system of government is built upon the presentation of ideas, the citizen's right to choose between ideas and then moving on. We should stop the culture of divide-and-conquer through name-calling, slinging mud, lies, and dishonesty. We are all Americans. Our nation will work best when we are united.

Good point, Willy. As our last election shows, the brilliantly educated "blue state" citizens are migrating by the droves into nearby red states.....why? Because they can no longer afford to LIVE in their blue-state "utopias." They elect people like Frank & Pelosi...and Obama?....who lead them into economic failure.
The democratic party is a joke...but a really bad one. They get on their soapboxes and preach their causes to all of us in the "fly-over" states...hoping to "enlighten" us so that we, too, can tax and government-mandate ourselves to the point of economic disaster. I wonder how long it will be before Nevada finds itself in the same financial crisis as their "fantasy-land" neighbor, California?
There is a GREAT divide in this country and Obama is no more capable of uniting us than George Bush was. The leftists love to preach tolerance to the right - and yet, when one reads these posts, it's clear they simply cannot tolerate those who do not agree with them. In fact, there seems to be a general consensus among democrats on these forums that the only solution to our country's problems is to silence any conservative opposition. They label conservatives as crazy, religious fanatics, and "haters" who are dangerous to our society. How ironic - the haters spewing hate speech at the haters they accuse of hate speech.
One thing is for sure, our corrupt, elected politicians represent all too well the utter stupidity of the majority of our population. Not only do they keep us divided, they relish it.

Seriously, folks. It's not that Obama is particularly objectionable. It's that the Republican Party is so terrified of being revealed for the group of shameless con-men that it is, that to their minds no stick is too good to beat Obama with.

The changes that he makes don't necessarily have to be called naziism to be naziism. Just as how he defines communism, doesn't necessarily have to be called communism to be communism. Spreading the wealth, creating special armies that answer only to him, changing our constitution because it doesn't speak to black people, and a number of other statements made by him in speeches and in his book, are enough to worry many of us.

Hook, line, and sinker, eh?
Well, as it happens, I have a few bridges to sell you...
Rep. Paul Broun = Clown.
Let's see how this conversation went down.
RNC, 'We need someone to say something completely stupid, but some people will buy it. The downside is that the person saying it will look like an idiot.'
Paul Broun(rhymes with clown), 'I'll say it.'

just goes to show you that most members of congress are idiots...term limits..that is solution..

I don't even know what to say...Paul Broun; you're an idiot!

Hmm, so who starts using the racism? Can i replay with ........... ? no, I could but will not.

I feel the same way about the term redneck. Liberals can say whatever they want, conservatives should be bound and gagged. sounds like far left policy to me.
what concerns me most is the notion that the new civilian corp will be needed for post war duty. Post war?? huh?? Let's get real crazy and say they are needed when Planet X visits in 2012.

He made it very clear that he was not calling Obama a Nazi or Hitler, but those of you left wingers never read the story you just glimpse at it and pick out what you wanted. What he is saying, is...he is warning you that Obama' ideas could easily be taken one step further and that even if Obama means well, his actions would the first steps towards the kind of Government Hilter installed. Using a National Security Force. If he gets to that point, it would no doubt be bloody if the people had to take back the government from despots or dictators. Our Constitution clearly tells us that sometimes we need to throw out the government and start new. If that happens and a standing army is amoung us we are screwed.
- 6 votes
Yea but the left wingers are JUST as crazy as the right wingers... Only a sensible dose of moderation will save this country.
I don't back any one man to the point of giving them a blank check like the republicans did with Bush and like the democrats will do now with Obama. Patriot Act was a HORRIBLE idea and so is this National Security Force.
The partisan drivel and the drones that play will only make things worse.

If Broun the clown is the best response a failed and fragmented Republican party can muster, they are going to be wandering in the wildnerness for a very long time, muttering to themselves, while Obama and the democratically-controlled Congress make a forceful and sustained effort to solve the pressing problems our nation faces.
Don't count the Republican party out yet. They are finally getting back to their roots....
Go ahead call everyone a CRACKER? thats racist, where is the moderator now. He deletes my post for using "MUTT"
If is comments like yours that is why there is a sudden spike in gun sales. WE WON"T tolerate a Fasists government in this country. WE HAVE A DUTY TO DEFEND THE CONSTUTION AND WE WILL TO THE DEATH. It is not a case of being crazy..it is a duty. If you want to join the National Federal Socialists then go ahead, we are keeping our guns.

Jack - where were you when Wall Steet flushed peoples' 401Ks? Bailed out the banks/financials (who will be giving their managers a bonus - but "reduced")? Sent American kids to Iraq (what a crime)? Sent a 3rd package of cash to AIG? Set up Homeland Security and wiretapping? Said they'd ok torture? Every right wing nut in the land sat on their hands, while others cried out for justice - albeit without anything being done. Until now. And while I was a registered Republican since age 17, I would not have voted in a Repug this year for even dog catcher. Now we will see how the federal deficit has reached $10 TRILLION dollars, and Social Security/Medicare is not even saved - they are running out of funds. You can gripe all you want about the prez, we all do, but George Bush and his cronies did nothing to stop the global trainwreck of easy money. (Casino, as some say, and that's about it.)
And for all that racist stuff, it's about socio-economics now. Poor whites vs. richer whites have always had the same ol' labels - redneck, cracker, poor white trash, ridge runner, stump-jumper, sorry if I left anyone out. People, white, with a heavy Southern accent have trouble being employed in business, and it's not fair - and all I can say is, if you care, go to a speech therapist.
To be fair, the prolbems in this country have been in motion since before and through the Clinton administration. Republicans AND Democrats alike are to blame and just about EVERYONE in congress should be tossed out for either doing the wrong things, or not trying to do the right things.
- 1 vote
Well, true, Mr. - I'd like to see term limits for Congress. But if these right wing nuts want to blame Obama for stuff before he is even sworn in as prez - what the heck, Shrub is fair game. And really, after 8 years, he has to take a good portion of the blame - doing nothing, is what his plan seemed to be.
The problem is that he had so very many accusations and so much denigration by so called Americans, that I think he has gotten even. In the last year, and most especially in the last few months, he is giving us what you asked for. We are ripe for the picking for a socialist to come along and take over the entire government. You don't believe it...just watch and see.
His idea is to build the economy from the bottom up....which means that the opportunities to become rich and live well in this country will simply mean that we will all now be poor, but equal. People who don't pay taxes will now receive monies from those of us who do. The do nothings will do even less because they might blow their check. The government now owns a stake in most of our larger businesses, and all of our major banks. It would be very simple to simply not allow them to buy their stocks back. After all, the dem/libbers resent anyone more successful than them anyway. Why not find a way to keep business down, while making the do nothings rich.
When business up and takes their businesses out of this country, there will be no jobs. Our Government will be running the businesses in this nation, and they won't do it well. Those who do nothing will collect a check, and the youngest of us will be bled dry for their ideas and their work, until they don't want to work either. There will be shortages on food, shortages on gasoline and oil, disallowance of oil, we'll be cold, poor and hungry. And then you'll all be happy...and we will no longer be a power in the world.

Jack Baum: I agree with what you have said. It drives me bonkers that all of a sudden now the "C" word is being used repeatedly when I've rarely heard it in the past.
In general this whole thing makes me laugh because all these people are riled up and divided. Some say to shut it; others say Americans will fight!
Americans will be too busy shooting at each other to pay attention to what any actual "organized civilian group" might be doing. People in general are too busy hating each other over the color of their skin and whether or not they have the "same" religion.
FYI to all you religious ones. Allah is Arabic for GOD; so when you bash Allah you're actually bashing God...good luck with that. Before you start to argue: 1) I know a little something about the topic 2) LOOOOOOOOOOK IT UP and 3) if you got this far and still think I'm wrong, realize -- please --- it's not worth your time to try and tell me I'm wrong.
Want another example? Archangel Gabriel in Arabic is Jibril -- its a freaking language barrier. I highly suggest that you get over yourselves.
There might be some 'fanatics' out there that are (or claim to be) Islamic or Muslim but how is that any different than in the United States or anywhere else? Have ya'll been to the "Bible Belt" lately? Have you forgotten what good Christians did to the Native American people? Don't even get me started.
The point is America will NEVER -- and I mean NEVER -- with stand a hostile government take over because the people as a whole are too egotistical to EVER let anyone else been in charge.
So even if they could get past skin color, sexual orientation AND AND AND "religion" or faith you're still screwed. (Yes I'm American but I answer to a higher power; that's the only one I care to keep happy.)
Split and divided this country WILL fall. So I suggest taking a look in the mirror and deciding who is going to be the bigger better person; quit slamming other people and spend your time trying to round up those people that are at least INTERESTED in doing what is right.
Another FYI: Jesus isn't coming. Christ is already here. I suggest that you read the Urantia Book 15:9.15; you might be interested to know that the whole reasoning behind what anybody does in an effort to create "one world" is merely to provide the appearance of Unity.
However, they fail to realize that there are people here to view that Unity is not even discernable enough to be seen even as an Illusion.
Oh, wait. That's just one more book to allow people to distort and abuse...so never mind.

I like your post and your knowledge of religion, I think there is a fundamental difference in Muslim belief and Christian. The writers of the Koran place Christ as a prophet not as our Savior. I've not studied the Koran but this is what I've been told.
Lol....I find it well worth my time to tell you you're wrong. Allah is not the same "God" written about in the bible. Seriously, put it in context and don't attempt to chastise the "ignorant" with a false concept. If you honestly think it's "only a language barrier," your study guides and references should be placed next to the toilet where they would be put to better use. Maybe one day you will gain the courage to really seek the truth of the matter. You seem "open-minded," but take care not to be so open-minded that your brain leaks out.
We should all seek to live our lives in peace and allow others the same opportunity. Unfortunately, human beings are incapable of it. We are all imperfect...except One....and we crucified him. Look it up and let it resonate.
Bullsh1t. You tolerated a Nazi government for 8 years never once saying a frigging word except in support while the sorry traitors in the White House gutted as much of the Constitution as they could. What the frig do you call spying on American citizens , holding an American citizen for 3 years without due process being charged or access to an attorney. I suppose you think spying on American citizens who have not been and never were affiliated with any illegal activity upholds the Constitutional right to privacy. Or that the 2007 bill that Boy George signed that had a provision slid in at the last possible moment that ended the posse comitiatas act is a wonderful affirmation of our rights and guarentees. Or that the suspension of habeus corpus is a great indicator of how wonderfully free these Nazis wish us to be.
You're just another lying neo-con nazi Repub. You don't give a flying rat's patootie about the Constitution and you never will. Go back to reading Mein Kamph and STFU.
Right on Mr Jack...so don't any of you civil servants come poking around here.
I cannot believe that people in this country, where we have free libraries, public schools, the internet and other sources of infomation, believe that Obama or any President for that matter could become a dictator. The closest thing we to a dictator of late was GW and even he got shot down by Congress and the Supreme Court after he lost all credibility with Iraq.
The Constitution guarantees that the powers be separate. This Georgia Congressperson is either an idiot or just grandstanding to get attention. The sad thing is we have people who believe this nonsense and will run with it because they have no idea what the law permits. This is why we VOTE every 4 years. TO guarantee that NO ONE will EVER have a dictatorship in this country. One reason I voted Obama is we have had Bush's and Clintons for decades. Hell Hillary STILL won't go the hell away!!!!
I guarantee you that Jeb Bush will throw his hat in for President one day. So the system isn't perfect but its still the best one in the world!!
Stop believing fools people. The only way this country will ever have a dictator is if we have a military coup and someone topples the government. That too is far fetched because we are the only country in the world where the citizens are better armed than the military. There are approximately 2.3 million people in the Armed Forces. There are approximately 90 million registered gun owners. So again, if someone wanted to try to take over the country they better have a standing Army of about 100 million or better!!!!! So stop the madness please!!!!
So please. Have a Coke and a smile or better yet Coke and Jack Daniels and chill out people
Whos the idiot? a fool that cant compile whats being said by a man and then add up what it equalls? Or a person who refuses to even have a open mind to someone they apparently put all thier hopes in and dont want to realize before it even starts they may have made the wrong choice in a president. Taking it as far as to compare Obama to nazi germany might be to much, but if you refuse to see what he has said with his own mouth you my friends must be looking into a mirrior when you type these words...
Obama has said he wants to redistribute the wealth.
Obama has a favorite book, Who wrote it? Do you know this persons history?
National health care, All i will say about this is it sounds great til you look at every country in europe is moving away from it. If you happen to live in canada you can wait 3-6 weeks for a MRI unless you belong to the parliment then you have a private hospital. Ask someone living on a reservation about the Indian health care system.
I could go on, but why it only takes three examples to show where something is leading to, best this is socalism at worst true marx type beliefs. If anyone reading these post thinks Obama is not atleast at the very far end of the stick must be right there with him and afraid to look off the end of it. LOL
I went to iraq for this country for my family and all Americans Democrats and Republicians, and i got the short end of the stick and got badly injured. I'm not crying saying give me give me and no one should. Stop being a baby get up and work for a living. If you need health insurance you are working in the wrong job period. Go back to school or change jobs dont try to change the best medical care in the world. I would be considered poor or low middle class, but my dream isnt free money ripped from the hands of someone like bill gates he made his dreams and is now living it. All americans need to change thier views from what you can give me to what can i do to achive something even 1/1000th of what bill gates has.
Bottom line is I hope for our country Obama centers himself closer to a moderate democrat beacuse whats he has been saying himself in the past does not I repeat does not show anything but a far far left view and sadly this is a socialist starting area.

I take it you mailed back your "Economic Stimulus" cash BJ's? Or cashed the checks and buried the money in your yard? Talk about socialism! No Democrat would politically survive even suggesting such a thing!

Wealth:
Like the taxs go to the American people and not to pay the Sunnies to stop shooting at us?
Thats redistribution I can live with!!
quote: "National health care, All i will say about this is it sounds great til you look at every country in europe is moving away from it. I get sooo tired of this. I have lived in Canada most of my adult life, I have relatives that still live in Canada. We definitely do not wait 3-6 weeks for an MRI. When these examples are used, they are taken from instances in the poorer sections of Canada, and some of those instances are well over 10 years old. It would be like using the examples of Emergency rooms in slums of large cities to represent the US's entire health care system. I can give you more recent and representative examples: my father’s best friend ended his 6 month battle with cancer in a hospice with his entire family around him and the best medical services. During this time, his family only concerned themselves with his quality of life in the end – never once did they have to be tortured by the prospect of medical bills. When you use a scare tactic, you should fully research it. There are quite a few people living in Canada that will be there to prove you wrong.
If you still don't believe that you are falling for false propaganda, I ask you to do the following experiment. Go to Canada - anywhere in Canada- and find 10 people at random and say the following, "man, socialized medicine is so bad, don't you wish you had America's health care system?" -- Challenge - find one person who does not laugh.
Socialism is not Marxism. There are many countries around the world that have found success in socializing areas of life that must be protected from greed and corruption (the basic necessities) and privatizing areas that will foster economic growth and the prospect of attainable wealth. The only view that lacks foresight is one that truly believes that only one system is the best, when history and examples in the present world show that strength comes from a compromise of differing ideals.

SDIrishMom, thank you for a breath of fresh truth! I always worry about the success of a new president. I was sad when G.W. Bush was elected, but I did everything in my power to show support for him; give him a chance.
I am most afraid of ignorance and invective in our public dialog. Almost every post here is based on false assumptions, rabid emotions, and selective belief rather than real study. The issue of health care is one of the least understood.
As an American citizen, I have been involved in the health care system for years. I have sat on panels of prominent physicians who state blankly "Our medical delivery system is failing." Let's just look at one simple fact: President-elect Obama is planning to offer us the choice to join a medical insurance program that covers the U.S. Congress. Period. Very simple to understand.
This would be as if you got a new job, and were offered health insurance as part of your benefits package. It is nothing to be afraid of, and could bring great benefit to many Americans who need health coverage.

Well, some good friends of mine are from Canada and they do say it SUCKS. When one of their parents needed eye surgery, where did they go to get it? FLORIDA! She would have gone blind waiting for it in Canada. And, they are not poor. You say that these examples are from the poorer sections of Canada? I thought nationalized healthcare was supposed to be a good thing for the poor. You just said in your post that it isn't! And, the last time I was in London, a show on the BBC was exposing the problems with nationalized healthcare and people's desire to move away from it. The only thing nationalized healthcare will do is turn my good healthcare to bad!
I have lived in Europe, and their health care is fine.
You don't see long lines of folks coming here to live from northern Europe. They live longer, healthier lives, have lower infant mortality rates, and don't know the fear of bankruptcy caused by medical bills. I don't know anyone there who hasn't gotten treatment needed, and service has been of the highest quality with excellent hygiene and recovery rates.
The Europeans also have the system set so if you want fancier care, you can buy additional coverage and get it. They pay less than we do for it all. One thing they do in Europe, is monitor their delivery systems, and more openly complain when the healthcare system is not operating as it should. This keeps the system stronger. I have seen many reports and experienced first hand bad practices here in the US too. No system is perfect - not ours, not theirs.
So why not set up a system that provides equally good if not better service, costs less, and covers everyone? Police protection, road maintenance, schools, all are provided by the government as part of a social contract we have drawn up over the years to maintain the common good. What is wrong with including healthcare in that? It's not socialism, communism, marxism, or vegetarianism.... It's just good business to get the economies of scale involved to drive down costs.
Just think how much General Motors and Ford would like to get the cost of employee healthcare off their backs. If you support American business and want them to recover, reducing their healthcare obligations would be a big help.
Most people who reject the idea of national healthcare have never had it. You never see folks with Medicare saying they don't want it. That's because it works.
I can give examples of the faults of the US system as much as you can of Canada's. When I say examples are from the poorer sections, it is mainly those sections that do not have the tax base to fund a well functioning healthcare system. If there is one fault of the Canadian system it is that it is not truly federalized (the Swiss system is a truly federalized system).
When you watch exposes on healthcare systems in Canada and on the BBC you are watching the process in full play. A properly run nationalized system must be so transparent that any fraud will be called to attention by media or other watchdog groups. Insurance fraud exists in a privatized system, but many times is quite hidden because the system lacks transparency. While you may use exposes as an example of a failed healthcare system, I find it an example of citizens watchful of their investment.
There will always be people who go to America to receive healthcare, they will also go to areas in Alberta as well. This is an example of how two systems can work in concert with each other. If you have the means to receive the treatment faster or by someone you deem to be more qualified, you certainly can, just pay the price. If you want it to be free, you may have to wait.
My aunt needed knee surgery and could go to Alberta and get it done right away. She chose not to and waited until it was her turn and paid nothing. Her choice.
Let's not kid ourselves, however, there is absolutely no way that the US will move to a nationalized healthcare system. The largest lobbying firms in the US are the Health Insurance companies; there is no way in the foreseeable future that they would allow a truly nationalized system.
I don't know if you haven't looked lately, but WE don't have a tax base large enough to FUND a nationalized heathcare. But it isn't really about nationalizing healthcare, is it? It's about taking away the decent healthcare that other people have. It's about inflaming jealousy in the minds of the have nots to want to take what the haves have.
What McCain wanted to do was to give a $5,000 check to those who didn't have healthcare to form their own LLC for the purposes of purchasing their own group healthcare. That way there would be no waiting lists and everyone could choose their own doctor. But again, it isn't about that...it's about taking what doesn't belong to you and laughing at the people you're stealing from while you do it.

nkorb1 - obviously you know nothing about this topic. Let's keep it simple. Please when you are 65 - refuse Social Security. It's the same thing as what Obama is proposing. You hate it. Don't use it.
A lot of seniors will though. You choose your own doctor, no waiting lists, and you take nothing that you haven't paid for throughout your life. Very simple. I have seen it up close with both of my parents and parent in law.
Regarding funding - if we return our troops home from Iraq - that will provide $10 billion a month to the national coffers. If we bring the rest of the imperial troops home from everywhere else, that will provide even more. Surely that will cover much of a health plan.
Well my friend I am a business owner and I have several employees and up until very recently my employees could not afford to contribute to a health insurance plan. The reasons are simple. First of all when insurance companies find out one is a business owner their rates are higher than they are for individuals. They use various actuarial tables that are different for businesses than they are for individuals. Secondly if one is a small business that has employees that may smoke, are overweight, or have pre-existing conditions, the insurance companies use your employees to determine your rates. In other words instead of using data from say, all dump truck drivers in the US, they will use data from the dump truck drivers from your individual company. This drives up rates dramatically because the pool of potential insured is substantially smaller.
I understand where you are coming from not wanting any handouts and I agree with you in principle and in spirit. But the truth is that unless the government regulates the insurance industry the way they DID NOT regulate the financial industry, we will start seeing more insurance companies, LIKE AIG, fail. They are victims of their own devices. They cherry pick healthy people who have good incomes and insure them because they understand that healthy people use their insurance less than unhealthy people. So if I only get a physical once a year, I only file for one claim a year, the rest of my premiums are "free money" to the insurance companies. Add to that the way they have lobbied to lower their tax rates and you get the idea of how AIG became a trillion dollar company!!
Another little known fact is that that a full 30% of foreclosures in the US are caused by medical bills that people cannot afford to pay. So by doing something about health insurance we will eliminate a full 30% of home foreclosures in the US. This in turn will help the housing industry recover much quicker than if we leave the free market to itself.
We have to change the way we think about healthcare in America. We are the ONLY NATION IN THE INDUSTRIALIZED WORLD that does not cover all of our citizens. I would add that when Medicare and Social Security were first bills introduced to Congress, the Republicans offered the EXACT same arguments. They stated that by offering healthcare and retirement assistance to our children and our elderly, we were marching towards socialism or Marxism. Well 43 years lafter The Social Security Act became law, we still are a free nation and are wealthier (even in the middle of this recession ) than we were in 1965 when Social Security was introduced.
The truth is that if we don't have a healthy nation, we can't compete with other nations economically. We decry the Japanese because they build cars cheaper, faster and more effciently than we do. Well their government works closely with private industry to make sure they have the funds and tools they need to compete on a global basis. So it isn't luck that is allowing their manufacturing base to survive and even grow in the midst of a worldwide recession while our manufacturing base is on the verge of collapsing. What Obama is saying is exactly right. We don't need bigger government or smaller government. We need SMARTER more EFFICIENT government that will assist our capitalist society to sustain continued growth.
Um lets see definition of Socialism: "an economic system based on state ownership of capital . "
Ok define Capital: "
So socialism defined is " the governemt owning assets available for the production of further assets, or the government owning wealth in the form of money or property owned by a person or business and human resources of economic value" OR
Government owning a seat of government!!!
Well ok we are moving towards socialism, but the truth is we have been a socialist nation since the Great Depression and never stopped being one. In fact we have been becoming more Socialist all the time. How many Republicans remember that GW signed the "prescription benefits program into law?" So that the government would subsidize prescriptions for seniors to help them out.
Ok how many of us have family members that get SOCIAL security? Key word SOCIAL!!!Oh but "no that doesn't count because we worked for it!" we say. But where on the planet can a person put in approximately 100,000.00 in and get a check for life with annual cost of living raises? No where but in a socialist country!!!!!
What about this? How many of our farmers get government subsidies so we can go to our local Sam's CLub or Food Lion or whatever and be able to buy food?
Not good enough for ya? Ok , how many remember us bailing our Chrysler in the 80's? No ok how about us bailing out Amtrack? hmm
Not old enough to remember that? Ok how about the billions we just gave GM and Chryler so some of our own family members get to keep their jobs? Oh that only happens in socialsit countries, not here!!! We're Americans dang nab it and we pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps!!!
Problem is even the boots we wear are now made in China.
You mentioned going to school. Nice idea, but college costs have outpaced the rate of inflation by as much as 3 times. So even if you are working to pay for college, you are going to end up with tens of thousands of dollars of debt. But wait!!! There are government grants and loans for that too!!!! So if your government didn't guarantee your loan the bank wouldn't even give it to ya!!! Don't believe me? ask anyone who owns a home if they can get a loan to send their kids to school now? well they might be able to get it once this stimulus package is passed and once Congress decides whether or not they are going to start buying people's mortgages so we don't increase the homeless population by about 40 million people.( NOT OBAMA because the PRESIDENT doesn't have the national check book CONGRESS DOES!!!)
Ok you are an injured vet. You have served our country well. I'm a vet too. But if it weren't for the Social programs formed after WWII to help our vets, there would be no disability for you. No healthcare, no educational benefits, no VA Loans to start a business or buy a home. So the fact of the matter is America has been a Socialist nation for nearly 60 years.
You want pure capitalism? China is probably the closest thing to that on the planet. Over there its every man/woman child for himself. You live or die based on your own decisions. No one over there cares if their poor live like animals so they don't have any social programs to help them at all. China still has child labor. So the Nike's we wear were probably made by some 8 year old kid working right next to his mom at the factory over there. That FORD/CHEVY/ DODGE RAM TRUCK we all love ? Um Steel came from China/Japan. Radio, navigation, AC Unit, Japan and other nations.
My point is this. We complain and complain and everyone seems sooooo smart. Americans are the ultimate armchair quarterbacks. You know how we sit and watch a game on Sundays and say "oh he should have thrown to the man on the 50 yard line!!!" Yeah thats easy to say when you are home safe in your armchair and don't have 325 lb pitbull looking guys trying to take your head off. Its easy to say what the government should or should not do, but the fact is "we the people" don't have a clue, thats why we keep electing idiots to office ( 90% of incumbents get re-elected over and over again.)
So we can complain about how "bad" our system is or that "we are becoming socialists" or we can get real and try to help figure this crap out so it will be maybe a little bit better for our kids.
Hey I agree the system stinks to high heaven. but its the best system ever devised in the world . Me? I'm staying. If people think its so bad then I hear Russia is looking for a few good Comrades!
