An aide to Barack Obama\'s transition team says the president-elect is on track to nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state after Thanksgiving.
She will make a good Secretary of State.
Bill Richardson could do a better job as secretary of state than hillary. thas't what I think
LOL...this was all set up by Bill Clinton. Don't you realize that all Obama is is a front for his third election?
Mr B NOCHANGE, this is laughable, the voters need a refund, there is no change, most of the administration are ex-Clintonites. Going to be a very long 4 years, well not so long, maybe safeĀ democratic senate and congressional seats will be lost in the upcoming midterm election. Once again, laughable.
"Bill Richardson could do a better job as secretary of state than hillary"
Hell, Pee Wee Herman could do a better job than Hillary.
At least Pee Wee would "plan it " !
Dan Cantrell,
She is a sorry excuse for a woman! She can't even take care of her own husband. Nice freaking present for America's Christmas Holiday! Does the words "pompass a**" hit home? How about "ugly" American?
First, the notion that it is somehow her fault her husband had numerous affairs is ridiculous and ignorant. As far as your other comments, there's an "ugly American" who comes to mind and it isn't her.
Secondly, everyone interviewed on national TV, Democrat or Republican, who know anything about this position think she would be a huge asset to the Obama team. But sadly, you (as well as Winger, Stone Cold, Freedom, and nkorb1) know more than the experts and can only offer sophmoric attacks instead of actual views based on intelligent thought. Why not trying to give some actual points of view that go beyond name-calling? Maybe you aren't capable of giving a point of view that has merit.
Hillary as Sec. Of State would almost certain eliminate any chance of a Republican winning in 2012 and most understand this. That is why you will read and hear all the negative comments by the GOP and their less than average base of supporters. Until the Republican party can come up with a leader to keep the right wing radicals and their hatred at bay you will see more and more voted out of office. People are tired of it and will not support it.
Agree with Democrat in CT. Sen. Clinton has the reputation of being a hard-working individual with a good amount of intelligence. I think she would be an excellent choice for the post. Sadly, many will criticize any choice that PE Obama makes.
This is the change that all of you suckers wanted? We have another Clinton administration with obama as president. He lied to the American people and the liberals will be too pompous to admit they were lied to and come up with all the reasons why this is change.
Freedom - Your negativity on this blog and others is an indication of a very serious depression. I'll tell you what.....try running this government with 2 wars, a collapsing economy, a split political outlook, not to mention GW Bush who is trying to leave us with a worse mess than we're already in and then you tell me and the people here, that you have all the answers. Do you actually think that a very smart incoming president would use untested, unknown, or just personal friends to come into his cabinet and administration? President elect Obama puts our country first before his own needs or desires. You are kidding yourself and just writing here to see your idiotic, conservative ramblings and objectionable words.
Yup! That's change with all the Clinton's people back in power. On the bright side, all the scandals during that administration will appear again. Maybe, the Americans will realize the liberals are a bunch of liars who just want our tax money and power (they can careless about this country). Obama's choices for his Cabinet show he doesn't know what he is doing ---- I think he is a puppet of the Democrat party. What about reaching across the isle? I guess not for important jobs.
Chris, I voted for Senator McCain. I was a lifelong Democrat, but I had deep reservations about Mr. Obama. Now I see him as a man of good sense when he goes for people with solid experience and good standing. As far as Hilary for Secretary of State, I think she should stay in the Senate where she could be much more effective. Of course, there is the possibility that she would counter Obama attempts when they are contrary to what she wants. As Secretary of State, she would be forced to follow his policies. And that might be another sign of Obama's cleverness: disarm the opposition. Do ya think?
The reason people will disagree with the choices BO makes, is not born of contention (or racism) as so many posts indicate. It is a result of the belief that he will promote socialist policy (which a majority of Americans are against, especially when they understand the implications). By his picks so far, there is strong evidence that they are not wrong. Yeah, Hillary is smart but smart does not translate into good policy if your idealology or principles lead to the control of one group of people ("the poor and down troddened" by "giving" them health care and food stamps) by another (the smart, elite "Progressives" that know better than you how to take care of you). None of the poor and down trodden who built this country did so with the aide of the government.
The mantra I am starting to hear now and I am sure will grow in the media is that we have to support our new President. Sorry, if he promotes government run health care (imagine your health care being run by the same people who brought you SS!) and other socialist policies I will in no way support him nor will I in any way feel bad. Conversely, I will be a proud American defending the principles of self reliance, free market, etc., that made this country great.
I have been a supporter of Obama since the very beginning. I think with some support from Congress and the American people he could make changes ..for the better.. BUT..I do not think that Hillary is a good choice for any position. She is not a team player and if you have her you have Bill ..they are only after one thing ..getting back in the White House ..no matter how they do it. I think people forget all the scandalin Arkansas. Richardson would make a good choice ..I liked him, not as a president, but as a leader.
Also, I think Obama should be picking people other than "old Clinton" people to fill his positions ...He has a good solid list to choice from ...Bring in NEW people to bring about the change he talked about ..and made us believe in.
I am new to thing political stuff ...but I have been following it very close. Our new president ..I believe..is making a BIG mistake in some of his cabinet posts.
JH-307896 siad it the best ..."the Clintons's are the most dishonest couple to ever be in politics"
"Sadly, many will criticize any choice that PE Obama makes."
Not true. I didn't vote for Mr. Obama for one reason and one reason only: his position on the Second Amendment. But he won, he's now our new President, and I for one will give him a chance to prove what he can do. But I will never agree with his purported choice of the @!$%# queen for Sec. of State, or any other job for that matter.
Some people ought to get over the idea that any opposition to Mr. Obama is based on the color of his skin. Philipqb, I love the last line of your post.
Democrat in CT,
you took the words right out of my mouth. How could anyone blame Hillary Clinton for Bill's philandering ways? This is the same thing that Rush Limbaugh did to Elizabeth Edwards (God bless that poor woman) and it is wrong. As I told my mom, if Hillary chose to forgive him and stay with him, we should all forgive too. After all, she was the one who had a humiliating thing happen to her in the glare of the world's view and she chose to live with him. It is really nothing to us.
For those who worry about President-Elect Obama appointing a "rival," please remember that Abraham Licoln did that with William H. Seward (the guy who bought Alaska). They had been rivals and Lincoln gave him the nod of Secretary of State. I guess that people like Lincoln, Obama, and their advisors know more about politics than we do or we would be the ones in office.
Not true. I didn't vote for Mr. Obama for one reason and one reason only: his position on the Second Amendment.
You didn't vote for him because he supports the second amendment? Well, that's weird..
I agree. The stupidity of some of the posters amazes me. Hillary being unqualified because Bill screwed around, priceless.
I'm not sure why folks dont "get it" but you cannot just put a pal in office, no matter who they are, just to return a favor. Do I think Slick Willy had a hand in this, yep, I do. I dont think Sec. of State was part of the deal, but a high level cabinet position for sure. Hillary is a hard worker, extraordinarily smart, and as first lady and senator has an exceptional knowledge of foreign affairs. She would not be better off staying in the Senate; she has little more than a token spot, no budget, etc. I think she knows, as does Obama, just exactly what the working relationship needs to be. As for Bill, I think he was "informed" how this will go, and if he isn't in agreement, oh well.
I dont care who it is, Hillary, Emanuel, or any of them. I do NOT want someone in high office now who is going to have to learn on the job while our country is falling apart. I cannot argue that Obama's experience may not be what McCain's was, but the HUGE difference here is that Obama is aware of his strengths, weaknesses, and is not so damn arrogant that he will forgo a good apointee just because of his ego. This is one very smart man... almost beyond intelligent. You think McPalin would do just that, put her personal feelings aside for the good of the country, think again.
I like Hillary and would have voted for her had she made the top ticket. I was sad she did not make the VP spot, though I like Biden, but completely understood why. Do I think the Clintons are the most honest people in politics? No, but then again, can we say Ted Stevens?? Grow up people, you can CHANGE how things are done under your control, making it very clear to whomever you appoint how the game will go. Obama is putting people in place who can hit the ground running, not learn their jobs while they do it... Even Obama detractors on the news agree....
Mainebound:
Couldn't agree with you more. We can hardly have on-the-job-training with the crisis in our country. Obama is brilliant, thoughtful, and was the one Hillary attacked at every turn. If he thinks she is best for the job it is fine with me. I don't think I know more than he does about what is right for his cabinet. Hillary is very smart and experienced. She will do an excellent job, and Obama can concentrate on solving problems here at home.
Mrs. Clinton is a teriffic choice at State as much as the far right hates the Clintons the rest of the world loves them. There has probably not been as high profile a choice since William Jennings Bryant this tells the world that Obama places great importance, even at a time of domestic crisis, on the roles that other nations have to play and doesn't plan on treating them as if they are recalcitrant children. Most of the rest of the world actually treats a couples sexual relationship as their own problem and tends to reserve judgement, the purient interest many Americans have in the personal relationship of two people in their sixties is kind of creepy. Hilary Clinton brings more political weight to the table than any non head of state in the world.
JKHayes
Mainebound/Greta
Based on your statement regarding "on the job" training we will now have to disqualify Obama????
"Almost beyond intelligent" WOW!!!!! Maybe he is the Messiah.
Hillary is an excellent choice, bringing much of what Obama lacks to a critical job.
I just stopped back in to see what is up on newsvine and found out that you republicans still make me sick. Just go away, we've got a country to fix.
Roy.. you betcha..
philip... my comment to you would be deleted.... lol...
Paul William Tenny - you obviously feel Mr. Obama supports the Second Amendment. I don't agree with you. Time will tell who's right. I hope I'm wrong on this one. Other than that, he's our President now and let's give him some time to see what he can do - if anything.
I've posted this before: I think this country is on a very slippery downhill slide, and I don't think Mr. Obama can reverse it. Nothing against him, I don't think McCain or anybody else can reverse it, it's gone too far. That's why I'm adamant in my position on 2nd Amendment. When the @!$%# hits the fan (and it will), I want to be able to protect what's mine.
all the Clinton bashing - at least we were solvent at that time - not in debt up to our eyeballs fighting a war we can never win - economy on the brink of extinction - more jobs overseas than here - and all the big fat cats smoking their stogies (or snorting their coke) and laughing all the way to Swiss banks (cuz they destroyed all the American ones) - so after having TWO bushes in the White House - how are we feeling?????
Obama supports the second amendment? Oh please! Review his voting record. He's as anti-gun as they come.
"At least Pee Wee would "plan it "
Actually, he'd be a good choice. If something came up, he'd take a firm hold on the situation, and soon he'd have the solution in the palm of his hand.
To Jean-737912:
I am sure Bill Richardson will also get a cabinet post. I agree, he is good, but so is Hillary.
Hillary Clinton's qualifications to be Secretary of State:
Hillary graduated from Wellesley College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with departmental honors in political science.
In early 1968, she was elected president of the Wellesley College Government Association.
Rodham then entered Yale Law School, where she served on the editorial board of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. During her second year, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center, learning about new research on early childhood brain development and working as a research assistant on the seminal work, Beyond the Best Interests of the Child (1973). She also took on cases of child abuse at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
During her post-graduate study, Rodham served as staff attorney for Edelman's newly founded Children's Defense Fund in Massachusetts, and as a consultant to the Carnegie Council on Children.
Following her husband's November 1978 election as Governor of Arkansas, Hillary became First Lady of Arkansas in January 1979, her title for a total of twelve years (1979–1981, 1983–1992). Bill appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee the same year, where she successfully expanded medical facilities in Arkansas's poorest areas without affecting doctors' fees.
In 1993, Hillary was appointed to head and be the chairwoman of the Task Force on National Health Care Reform, hoping to replicate the success she had in leading the effort for Arkansas education reform. It was a comprehensive proposal that would require employers to provide health coverage to their employees through individual health maintenance organizations.
1994 midterm elections, which saw a net Republican gain of fifty-three seats in the House and seven in the Senate, winning control of both; which was a major factor in the defeat of Hillary's Health Care plan.
The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War , which became known as the Gulf War Syndrome. Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office of Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice. In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption of Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady. In 1999, she was instrumental in passage of the Foster Care Independence Act, which doubled federal monies for teenagers aging out of foster care.
As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997), on Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997), and on Children and Adolescents (2000). She also hosted the first-ever White House Conference on Teenagers (2000) and the first-ever White House Conference on Philanthropy (1999).
Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time.
Clinton has served on five Senate committees: Committee on Budget (2001–2002), Committee on Armed Services (since 2003),Committee on Environment and Public Works (since 2001),Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (since 2001)and Special Committee on Aging. She is also a Commissioner of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (since 2001). As Democratic Committee Outreach Vice Chair, she is the ninth-ranking Democrat in the Senate.
If you all didn't have the time to read my entire post (above) about Hillary's qualifications, at least see this:
Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time.

Now, can anyone deny that Hillary Clinton is qualified to be Secretary of State?
She is HIGHLY QUALIFIED.
Setting aside political considerations for a moment --
when I think back on a speech I heard Clinton give on energy and the global market, sometime during the summer of 2007 ... I think, I'd want this wise and informed counsel in the Cabinet on the most vital governing issues if I were Obama.
But then, considering the gross personnel and finance mismanagement, and failure of leadership she showed in her campaign -- then I question her fitness to manage a beauracracy like the State Dept.
So guess I think that guided by Obama's even-keel intellect, and supported by a staff of serious, competent professionals (not the amateur egomaniacs she had run her campaign) -- HRC could be of great value.
1. Why do all the Obama haters insist that having some Clinton people in his cabinet is a signal that he lied about change? The primary change he was refering to was having a weak minded president (W) who was manipulated by his people. NO ONE will manipulate him. He is in charge and everyone knows it.
2. OF COURSE there are going to be a lot of Clintonites in his cabinet. They make up the majority of Washington-experienced Democrats! For those of you who critised Obama's lack of Washington experience, and are now critising Obama for surrounding himself with experienced people, I say. . . you must be a Republican who will critisize him no matter wht he does.
3. If you think that Bill Clinton (the one who gave us peace and prosperity by the way) will be the real power being Obama, think again. Obama knows what he is doing. He is highly intelligent. As I said, HE is in charge.
In the beginning of primary season. a LONG time go, I was afraid that Obama was not strong enough to stand up to Hillary, not to mention Congress. But when he turned to her and said, "Hillary, you're nice enough" and "I am expecting to have you advising me, when I am president of the United States" I thought, man that guy's got what it takes. HE DEFEATED THE CLINTONS. He will be ok. He knows how to stand up for himself. I am very hopeful and confident that he will do a fantastic job.
To JC-336018:
Wow, what a great post. Thank you.
I don't understand why some people on this blog seem to want Obama to fail.
If Obama fails, then America fails. Period.
It is in everyone's best interest to see Obama succeed.
To all of you bloggers who slander Obama:
Give the man a chance to prove himself. For gosh sakes, at least give him a chance to sit down at his desk on January 20 before you go slandering him.
Apparently, you 2nd amendment people are very fond of your assault rifles. You apparently need an automatic weapon that shoots 20 rounds with one pull of the trigger to bring down a deer. Or, you don't care if a kid gets one of these weapons and kills 30 - 100 kids in school. Remember the days of hiding under your desk for bombing drills. Today's kids go through drills to hide from gunmen entering their school where they are supposed to be safe!
Oh, but if we make policy that makes sense, then someone is going to go too far and ban ALL guns. WHO is going to do that? No ONE and not our Congress.
So, give it up. All of you who repeat this crap from Rush Limbaugh are just as mentally ill as he is.
It is about time this country makes good policy and forget those fear mongers who say, 'if we do that, then we might have to give up everything.' With that attitude, nothing EVER gets done.
The Republicans have already started their campaigns for 2010 and 2012 to "take back the power." They are NOT interested in doing ANYTHING FOR this COUNTRY. They are so concerned about their POWER, they don't give a damn about the rest of us.
While I didn't support Obama, I do believe he's making good choices at this time. We face critical times ahead, so I think we need to give him every chance to succeed, since failure will be bad for everyone. The partisanship that accompanied the Democrats controlling Congress in 2006 has caused nothing but havoc, so let's not perpetuate the mistakes. Give him a chance.
In the strictest sense this is change in the philosophical sense this is more of the same, with a slightly different spin. The economy will turn eventually and the partisans will take credit and the beat goes on and in the big picture we will have more debt, less freedom and more partisan wrangling and in 20 years this will be irrelevant. There will be new crisis's new promises made by new partisans and more of the same all over again.
Lisa- Well said! I'm a deer hunter and don't need an fully automatic weapon to get the job done. Nor do I need one to protect my family. It's well known that these are the only weapons Obama is opposed to.
What is wrong with all of you people..If Obama is wrong ..then everyone can say I TOLD
YOU SO...However if he is RIGHT then what are you people going to Say?...NEVER MIND?
Can He at Least be SWORN INTO OFFICE....PLEASE!
Too much Clinton influence throughout the people around him. You can't go forward by looking backwards. I believe he has really shot himself in the foot this time.
I don't think too many people are advocating unrestricted use of automatic weapons. Michigangunandboat, I assume you would know the difference between automatic and SEMI-automatic. Lisa, I think you don't know the difference, and may have bought into the anti-gun propaganda.
But to say that automatic weapons are the only ones Obama is opposed to is just not true. He has advocated closing all gun stores within a five-mile radius of any school or park. I haven't seen a gun store yet that has full-auto weapons for sale. I used to have a bunch of literature supporting my position, but I threw it out when he won, or else I could present a more effective argument.
Paul William Tenny - The most partisan liberal on newsvine is our author tonight.
All I have to say is please Mr. Obama, spare the United States of America of any more years or the Clintons. I am tired of the most dishonest couple to ever be in politics. We really wanted "change".
Sorry JH but I am even more liberal than Paul William Tenny ever dreamt of and am proud of it by god. We need more thinking Americans like us.
I just don't understand your thinking. The United States has always been about individualism and work hard and get ahead. You can be anything you want to be in the US. Nothing is holding anyone back. Except when liberals want to take from one to give to another. Mrs. Clinton's idea of health care back in the 90's was a prime example of liberalism that the American people strongly rejected. The United States of America takes good care of the less fortunate. Most of us don't want to take care of able bodied people. Why do you think so many people want to come to America? If it is because they want to be taken care of then please stay away. If they want to come here to succeed and be free then please come.
JH that is what liberalism is all about...honest pay for a hard day's work. Somehow the conservatives have preverted the idea to mean that a hard day's work means stealing as much as you can from fellow Americans while getting on their knees begging for welfare. You can admire the big business welfare beggars but I don't. I admire the honest hard working middle class Americans.
AMEN !
It doesn't look like that is what you go though.
Merle & Winger - I am conservative. Thank God! I don't ever want to be called liberal. If you think for one minute that I am "trying to steal as much as I can from fellow Americans" you're idiots!
I am the honest hard working middle class American that you talk about. But, I don't want to support any lazy ass people.
Merle you odnt know what youre talking about, auto workers in Detroit are getting paid much more than those in the south, yet the DEMOCRATS are wasting valuable taxpayer money on Detroit to keep those votes they got in the last election on their side. Mr NOCHANGE will be out in 2012, the DEMOCRATS have made so many mistakes already, enough for four years even before the administration has started.
INDEED JH...
I mere Rookie, I made the grave mistake the pleaing for a return to Christain PRINCIPLES IN GOVERNMENT.......
and was "dive bombed" by the Honorable Paul William Tenny...{he smoked my cookies} and left me crawling for the cyber door of love.....
Merele
Invoking god? Isn't that sacrilegious for such a mighty liberal?
Merle, please don't use God and liberal in the same sentence.
Yours respectfully,
Satan
Clinton lied about a bj, how many troops got killed as a result? We were better off under Clinton.
EXCUSE me freedom - you are bashing the auto industry for wanting something the fat cats on Wall street already got???
philipqb,
Regarding your comment about Obama's experience. The following is for you and others unwilling or unable to research the facts and just believe any campaign commercial they see (the following is from CNN):
Fact check: Does Palin have more 'experience' than Obama and Biden combined? Posted: 04:00 PM ET
The Statement
Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, in an interview October 31 on ABC's "Good Morning America," praised his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, saying in part that she has "more experience than Senator Biden and Senator Obama put together."Get the facts!
The Facts:
McCain doesn't clarify what he means by "experience." But during the campaign, Palin, 44, has said she has ore governmental "executive experience" than Obama. She served as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, from 1996 to 2002, and has been governor of that state since December 2006, a total of nearly eight years executive experience. She also served for four years on Wasilla's City Council.
Obama and Biden have held elected posts as lawmakers, but have not, like Palin, served in elected executive posts, such as mayor or governor. However, they have around four times the amount of elected office experience combined than Palin.
Obama, 47, has 11 years and around eight months of experience. He served in the Illinois State Senate from January 1997 to November 2004. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in Illinois in 2004 and was sworn in on January 3, 2005.
Biden, 65, has 37 years of elected office experience. He served two years on the New Castle County Council in Delaware and then was elected to the U.S. Senate in Delaware in 1972. He was sworn into the Senate on January 5, 1973, and has served there since.
McCain, 72, himself has more elected office experience than Palin, with nearly 26 years of experience in Congress. He was elected to the House in Arizona in 1982 and then was elected to the Senate in 1986.
The Verdict:
Misleading. McCain didn't use the caveat "executive experience." Obama and Biden combined have four times the amount of elected office experience than Palin. McCain himself has more than twice the amount of experience.
Nuff said.
To JH-307896
You say "spare me from the Clintons."
You should know that Bill Clinton was fantastic for the economy.
Dow close on Clinton's swearing in (1/20/96): 3,254
Dow on Clinton's last day (1/20/01): 10,587

To JH-307896:
You say about liberals: "Except when liberals want to take from one to give to another. "
Well, let me tell you, JH-307896:
Republican George W. Bush has left NOTHING for ANYONE to take except HUGE DEFICITS, unemployment, and a crashing stock market.
Hooray for the Democrats back in power! Hooray for Obama!
I just hope it is not too late.
Rhonda,
I don't know what your talking about because the stock market will go up and then it will have to go down if our government would just leave it alone it will work it self out.
To jake-288926:
This is what I am talking about:
The stock market acts on confidence.
The stock market rises when there are positive indicators.
That is why Obama will introduce a positive economy: he inspires confidence in his abilty and in his judgement.
Just today, the stock market surged over 500 points because of Obama's treasury choice.
See, confidence.
Rhonda, only the most devoted of partisans could tout a one day rise in the dow as an indication of confidence in the new administration after a couple of weeks of post election spiral downward. Government will not be the panacea many are hoping for in my view. The founder's of our country you might remember constructed the constitution to protect us from government. For the last 100 years or so the momma didn't change my diaper enough crowd has been crying for government adoption and now it seems we will give it a try, in my opinion it will be a departure from the basic philosophy of our country for better or worse the concept of freedom and the cocoon of big government don't mix, I am expecting the country to make some tough decisions in the next few years, I am hoping the education system didn't fail the majority of citizens as woefully as it has big government crowd.
Democrats need to be careful. http://ross-1.newsvine.com/_news/2008/11/19/2129653-the-big-stink It could prove to be a very bumpy road over the next 4 years.
It's the American people who need to be careful. The Republicans continue to support the worst President this Country has ever had, GW Bush. They are trying to all the midnight legislation and executive privilege tricks that Georgy can think up. Our economy, environment, societal values and obscenely greedy men are in Washington looking for a hand-out. Why have the Republican sold us to our enemies? How could they think about themselves and forget the middle class? The whole scenario is disgusting.
Change..the same old retreads daschle clinton emaneul holder on and on and on.where fisherman is a typical angry liberal saying that bush is the worst blah blah blah. He is not the best to be sure but he was honest ,unlike, I never had sex with that woman" or the top of the list of worthless presidents ta.. da..yes jimmmmmie carterrrrrrr!
Fisherman, George W learned at his daddy's knees how to belly up to the public trough and get his whatever his little heart desired. I know it is common practice among the sports owners, but George W did quite well using public money for his Rangers back when he was an owner of the Texas baseball team, before we stupidly elected him Governor. Normally, that position is more honorary than useful, but he sure managed to use it to his advantage. Just after the 9/11 tragedy, the day we all recognized New Yorkers as one of us, I talked with a man who worked in a place where he could look across the river and see where the twin towers used to be. He asked me if we had a president who could handle the situation. All I could say was, "Well, he has older, experienced people around him." People can rail against the liberal Democrats all they want, but none of them can hold a candle to the record of the current administration when it comes to bellying up to the public trough.
How does one give a top rating to the administration that hasn't started yet? How bout lets Waite and see. As for Ms Clinton for Sec' of state, Bill's Dealings with other Nation's, Some of witch are not US friendly, Will have a serious effect on her ability to serve US interest, Not a good choice.
Stop insulting us and get a dictionary, Walter Owens.
Walter, those dealings didn't get in George W. Bush's way.... Google "The Carlysle Group" and see what you come up with.
Rich-
Bush honest really? Have been in a time warp the last 8 years. Bush is INFACT the worst president in history hench 23% approval rating!!!!!!! I still can't figure out why the righties get so upset about clinton when we had a booming economy, lots of jobs, a huge surplus and no war.....oh wait its because the democrats did it...........
The Clinton's are the worst pick for any goverment job! Send them to take over Somalia! They would fit right in with the other criminals. President Bush and our brave military has kept us from being attacked again. The greedy bastards on Wall Street caused our money problems. The greedy oil companies have screwed us terribly with bogus oil shortages. Put the blame were it belongs! Congress and the Senate make the rules. Not President Bush. Our do nothing leaders in those democratically controlled Houses have been sitting on their thumbs blaming Bush for their inaction.
"the worst President this Country has ever had, GW Bush."
You must not have been around during Jimmy Carter's Presidency. Try looking up his famous "Misery Index" on Wikipedia, and you'll see that GW Bush's Misery Index (combined Inflation Rate and Unemployment Rate) will average just over 8%, only slightly higher then Bill Clinton's 7.8% and was the second best in the last 40 years, and Bush had to contend with an unemployment spike of 1.5% after 911 that lasted several years . Under Carter, the misery index averaged over 16% and got almost to 22% at one time. While I hope Obama does well for all of our sakes, we'll have to see if he can do better. Perspective is a wonderful thing, so let's try to keep that in mind.
What nobody has mentioned is that the dems have had control in congress for 2 years and can anyone tell me why the rating is below GB's? I am sorry but Pelosi thinks she is going to run the country. Look at the confusion she caused by jetting off to different countries and sticking her nose where it did not belong. It was not her job. Then she throws a fit, just use of words, and turns off the lights, the air and other things because some the reps wanted to stay and debate some stuff, can't remember exactly what. Is this the type of people we want to run our country? I also remember an interview in July where BO stated our Constitution has a fundamental error/flaw and he will change it, not the words used as I have to find that interview. As far as who BO picks, it is up to him, I don't have to like it and I can only hope it works out. I can't see that happening with Hillary, sorry. My 1st impression of her as First Lady was I come first and everything is me me me. Yes she did stand by her man but was it her idea? I also wander what kind of payback BO will have to do to his big supporters. Don't say that that don't happen because why would unions and big business give all that money, you got it they want something in return. As always just my opinion.
What nobody has mentioned is that the dems have had control in congress for 2 years and can anyone tell me why the rating is below GB's?
Start at 100%. Subtract 50% because Republicans are going to be dissatisfied simply because their party is out of power. Subtract another 40% because Democrats spent two years caving to every demand Bush made of them from the war to FISA.
Result: about 10% approval.
So far - Barack has hired crooks, liars, thieves and low lifes. Well - Hillary sure fits in that class. DISGUSTING! Or - is it keep you enemies closer? Having Hillary any where NEAR a public office means old Bill will be licking her heels and running the show for her. Barack said "change" and he is bringing in all the Clinton staff. WTF is that supposed to do? Barack lied his way through the campaign and will continue until he is caught. ACORN anyone?
Mr. Obama's cabinet looks like the thugs straight out of the TV series 24.
When you talked about low life I thought you were talking about Bush and his conies. It could not get any lower. America has spoken and they have had enough and we will have a real preident for the first time in January. Hey, what out for the Orkin man he may get you.
Watching you Republicans cry for the next four years is going to be extremely satisfying after what your party did to this country over the last eight.
Well Mr. Tenny, not sure what you are really referring to about the republicans "crying for the next 4 years" is really about. Perhaps going back, reading who all was blogging, rooting for Nobama, (obviously your new hero from the set of Oprah), and even Hillarious, you will see, that his once used to be supporters, are starting to provide some very negative feedback. Another reminder Mr. Tenny as well.....the democrats control congress, and have for the last how many years? So good luck with your next 4 years of democratic support.....see if you feel the same by the time it is over. Good luck with that. Nobama is a crook, and couldn't wait till his inauguration speech to start proving it.
not4me - Please find a Country that you will be happy to live in. The United States doesn't seem to suit you.
Another reminder Mr. Tenny as well.....the democrats control congress, and have for the last how many years?
One year and 21 months, during which Republicans set an all-time record in our storied 220+ year history for filibusters in the Senate. The party of obstruction (GOP) got punished for it by losing even more seats this election than the last, and if they keep this crap up, they'll hand Democrats a filibuster proof majority in 2010 and it'll be their own fault.
Maybe at that point the GOP will hit rock bottom and can start rejecting these childish practices once and for all, embracing cooperation and compromise instead of holding their breath.
God forbid Mr. Tenny. I'm originally from N.C. andĀ I have never seen so much stupidity as during this election. I am conservative and I am not crying for the next four years..... but you may be before its over with....
not4me:
Take your sour grapes and crawl back under your rock.
Are you all so naive that you believe ANY politician isn't in it for themselves in some form or fashion? PE Obama wants to be a two-term president. He will strategize, calculate, and control for every possible factor that will impede that ultimate goal. Maybe it will benefit us, maybe it won't. If it doesn't, trust me, he has a strategy in place about who to blame. I am not a hater, I'm a realist. Obama is a VERY politically smart man. I hope we get lucky and benefit from all those smarts.
Cry baby Cry, Cry Baby Cry!!
I am a Republican who actually agrees with the choice of Clinton.
I am hoping for the best with an Obama administration and the next Congress, but also preparing for the worst: I have no trust in any government.
However, if things go well, then that's good for all of us and I won't be crying. If things go badly, I'll be crying for sure. Tears of laughter that is.
Cry Baby, Cry? I like that.
Hillary will bring drama and under-handed politics to an administration that wants change.
I really hope Barack has a Kitchen Cabinet--use Hillary only for the parlor. For someone who wanted to be the president, this is the closest Hillary can get to it at her age.
I truly hope she will actually work in the best interest of the country rather than her personal ambitions.
Let's hope Barack does not have to spend so much time watching his back that he can't concentrate on the crucial issues of the country.
Are you kidding? Do you really think after the performance of Biden, the Vice President has his back? Barack Obama is a figurehead...nothing more.
Nah, this isn't a Republican administration. Democrats respect our constitutional framework where the President makes the decisions and the VP supports them. I know we're used to how Bush and company perverted the government but that's not standard political practice subject to both parties, that's just Republicans hating our form of government and trying to turn it into something that it's not.
It's going to be a calm and wonderful four years, try to enjoy it while Democrats clean up the GOP mess.
keep deamin' buddy......keep on a dreamin'....but donn't cry when you wake up ok.
Democrats respect our constitution??? Gun control, fairness doctrine, the legislative branch as the source of law not the judicial. You're right they do respect the constitution, my mistake.
1. Gun control is a legitimate instance of debate.
2. The fairness doctrine is a myth, a ghost issue that Republicans use to try to scare people into putting them in power. Most Democrats don't support it either.
3. The legislative branch *is* the source of law, everybody agrees on that so I'm not sure why you even brought it up.
But now it's my turn, how about we start with Republicans trying to abolish habeus corpus, the right to challenge your detention in a court of law? Or the 4th amendment which Republicans think is completely optional? How about the 14th amendment which guarantees that all people shall be treated equally under the law, except gays?
Support of an amendment, Does NOT Include freedom of choice, based on ones sexual preferences.
1. Gun control is a legitimate instance of debate. I notice when it's the 1st amendment liberals get kinda touchy on what is legitimate debate for that one. Interesting to note that without the 2nd the 1st will go away.
2. The fairness doctrine is a myth, a ghost issue that Republicans use to try to scare people into putting them in power. Most Democrats don't support it either. Ghost Issue? Is that why Shumer thinks it is a good idea? It was law at on time, is that the myth?
3. The legislative branch *is* the source of law, everybody agrees on that so I'm not sure why you even brought it up. Sorry, I sated it in such a way that you had to associate it with my reference to the judical branch and then draw conclusions. It is the speafers responsibility to make sure the audience understands the point. For clarification, the left has been unsuccessful in getting laws passed supporting their agenda so have turned to getting it accomplished through the judicial branch, ie, abortion.
Who's right to habeus corpus are the Republicans wanting to deny? Terrorists? Ok you got me on that one.
On the 4th amendment, are you refering to the $90,000 found in Jefferson's freezer????
Tell me what law under which gays are not treated equally. I do not know of any. Nor do I know of any Republicans that think they should not be. I do know many Republicans that do believe they should not be treated in a protected manner.
you know something if every president we have had would have just left the constition alone and not change something to suite them then we would have been better off.
I wonder how many Democrats and for that matter Republicans (with the exception of ONE) have not only read the Constitution but understand WHY it was written in the way it was.
Based on Obama's previous statements (on record), I am not sure he does. He apparently takes issue with the "essential constraints" of the Constitution. The ones purposefully put there by the Founders.
Tell me what law under which gays are not treated equally. I do not know of any.
Maybe you should educate yourself before opening your mouth, then.
Barack is also asking for the sky to be lowered for his programs". Bet the house he WILL bail out the auto industry - with a big kick back. If those guys needed money - sell the fleet of jets - cut CEO salary, lower the CEO golden parachutes so they won't open when they resign or are fired, as they ALL should be. The money THEY spend would pay the NATIONAL DEBT!
And where were you while the Republicans were bailing out Wall Street?
Wall Street: $700 billion
Auto industry: $150 billion
1 on 10 jobs in this country are tied to the auto industry, if it fails, the country goes with it. It is far, far more important than Wall Street ever was.
I was writing my congressmen telling them no. Didn't do any good, but then the democrats were the ones that got us to the point of having a "crisis" (crisis - word commonly used by liberals to create a state of panic within the populace in order to soften the ground to present "fixes" that will be unpopular but create more government) in the first place. What's a poor boy to do!?
Seems to me the work "crisis" came from the current Sec. of Treasury under our Republican Pres. and things started going badly long before 2 years ago when Dems took over the majority.
Right, It started going bad when Clinton started muscling the Communities Reinvestment Act. Paulson is a republican not a conservative.
you know something they are all to blame not just one sided.;
I don't have any faith in Hillary's ability to do anything but waste more of our hard earned money. In all her time in politics she has accomplished zilch. Now I hear Obama may be considering Arnie baby the girly man from California for a position in his administration, I Moved out of California when he became Governor and he has proven my instincts right every step of the way. Wake up Barack we need real people who understand how much damage WMD Bu@!$%#o has done and can fix at least some of it.
Tell me, how does a Secretary of State "waste more of our hard earned money"?
I have not heard about Arnold being considered for a position ..he did not even support Obama ..his wife did. I think he has his hands full out in California ...keeping it from burning up in wild fires.
As far as Hillary ..wasting more of our money ..I doubt she would or could do that ..I just don't think Obama should have her watching his back ...I read this week she was not sure about accepting the position because she likes "to run her own show - be her own boss" that says a lot right there. "secretary" means taking orders ..no matter how high up the food chain you are.
Sidebar - if Palin had some how ended up in the White House ..she would of spend ALL of our money ...on clothes ...
You went through the trouble of presenting a reasoned and thoughtful comment then destroyed it by making a stupid Palin comment. Why? Sounds like "mean spiritedness" to me. I am always amazed at the audacity of liberals to assign this trait to conservatives and then to turn around and display it in their words and actions.
Tell me, how does a Secretary of State "waste more of our hard earned money"?
....................With she "she beast" all things are possible..... Did I mention she can stop Time?
No! B.O. I would not let her shine My shoes. She has a big mouth loose lips sink ships.
Frogs sing in the rain. One in the hand is worth two in the bush..
See, I can mumble incoherently too, but it's not terribly productive. How about using your brain for a minute and actually say something?
You need to take your advise
See, I can mumble incoherently too, but it's not terribly productive. How about using your brain for a minute and actually say something?
There is a Old saying... Practice what you preach.......
When it comes to politics in this country, there is no such thing as change. Mr. Obama is surrounding himself with long time political weasels. We all know that politicians lie just to get elected, for some reason I was hoping Mr. Obama was different. The only recourse we have is to vote him out in 4 years.
No, there are plenty other courses of action one can take in this situation. I, like most people (e.g. not Republicans) are going to wait until after he's been in office for a few years and then judge him based on what he's actually done, rather than merely the people he's filled out his administration with.
Since I think he can't possibly screw up as bad as Bush did, I think he's a pretty good lock for another four through 2016.
It'll be interesting in the next 2 to 4 years to see how the Republicans will get the blame even though the Democrats will likely have a super (filibuster proof) majority. With the leftist media and liberal wing that now runs the democratic party, I'm sure they'll figure out a way to lay blame.
On a separate note, I too was hoping Richardson would be named SS. I'm an old yellowdog democrat and was hoping Richardson would have done better in the primaries but he didn't get the support. He would make a great SS though. Obama's going to have to man-up. Pointing his fingers at the opposition is fine when running for election. Now, all the fingers will be pointing at him. I hope he's successful but so far, looks like Hillary is the one that actually got elected.
A super majority is 67, not 60. The former overrides a veto, the latter breaks a filibuster.
The reason conservatives can judge now is because BO said what he would do. Tax the "rich". Sign the Employees Free Choice Act, which is nothing more than an attempt by Unions to gain more control over businesses. The act does away with private balloting. Imagine our presidential voting not being private. Attempt to pass universal health care. Said he would not only support the ideas of "community activists" but would actively seek their ideas for policy. Like it or not, liberals and conservatives have different ideas about what is good for the country and we are not going to comprimise our principles in the name of Bipartisianship. Which from a liberal's point of view means going along with them.
Speaking of the EFCA, I can't wait until that law passes. Unions have been at a severe disadvantage for decades and the EFCA will help rebalance things a little bit and is badly needed, but it's just the beginning. There is a lot more work to do until things are truly balanced and unions are on equal footing with management.
Do you naysayers, have any cabinet appointee suggestions, other than just bashing Obama. Were in really bad times. I do not want Jr. wannabes trying to deal with serious issues that we all face, GET OVER IT!
sure....BigBird from Seasame St.....at least he's honest, and doesn't see imaginary sniper bullets!....DUCK! ooops my bad, it's only a child with flowers....omg what a joke the next 4 are going to be.
mega-loden,
Couldn't come up with any, huh?
"If you can't impress them with intelligence, baffle them with bull****!"
Where does this "we are in really bad times" idea come from? We are experiencing economic slow downs and politically created problems but we are no where near "really bad times." We are so use to a level of living that no other country in the world has experienced that our point of reference is off.
tell that to the over 27000 people that just went on unemployment last week
No problem. You 27,000 people who just went on unemployment, its not that bad. Yes, you will have to make adjustments to your lifestyle. Hopefully, during the time you were enjoying full employment, you put away for a rainy day. Just remember that in all economies there are ups and downs. People loose jobs and find jobs. It's called life. Sorry it happened to you this time. I am thankfull to God it did not happen to me, this time but it has happened to me before (several times) and I am still here and my family is happy and healthy. Now if you want to do something about the possible future prevention of job loss, vote for people who understand dynamic economics and will prevent policies that hinder the free market. Now get out there and hit the pavement. Someone is looking for a forward looking, hard working individual.
like GW Bush - who has never suffered through bad times? - not likely - i have a job thank you - i am talking about where this country is headed - & you asked why people think it is bad times - maybe cuz the unemployment rate is higher than it has been in decades & there is no end in sight - hmmmm - maybe that is why people think it is bad out there - jobs are not just going to reappear since so many of them are being shipped overseas
WoW not facing bad time huh? Were have you been?. If the auto industry falls they predict we WILL go into a DEPRESSION! At least the bailout of the auto industry will save american jobs, unlike the AIG bailout that sent its CEO's out on a vacation with the money.
OMG, nica you are so right!
Like 93 percent of people still have jobs.
Something must be done!
I do I think Bill Ayers for sec. of education
sec. of Homeland security has to be Jane Harman(California 36 district rep)
Sec. of Health and Human Services shold be Hillary she actually qualifies for this one
Sec.of Treasury should be Bernanke of course
National security advisor Definately Susan Rice. Silences anybody who disagrees with her exactly what her potential boss does
His chief of staff really should be Rev. Wright
I don't want someone that can't even stand up for herself to be in power in any way at all. She has set women back a 100 years...!!!!!!
Linda-again,
How exactly is that? By putting 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling? For being the first woman who almost won her party's nomination to be president? For being such a skilled politician that she is being chosen as Secretary of State? By raising a well-adjusted and successful young woman? What exactly has she done that sets women back? Is it because she chose to stay with her cheating husband? If so, a lot of other women can be accused of setting us back, as well. Bill Clinton is not the first man to cheat. He won't be the last. I am sure that there are women on the Republican side who have put up with cheating husbands and they aren't being discussed the same way Hillary is. I think that they are usually praised for keeping their family together and working through the tough times. It is a shame that Hillary gets this double standard placed on her.
by not accepting the Palin theory of woman hood - if you can't be Gov or VP you should stay home and raise babies - as many babies as possible
Hey Linda, I hope you are not refering to her marriage, because if you are I would suggest that you write her on just how she should run a perfect marriage BUT I sure your one of those people who would say "The Personal Life" is nobody's business if it were about Sarah (I lost My Turkey Head) Palin!!! then of course that would be different.
C. Powell instead of H. Clinton
Powell stood up in front of the U.N. and lied about WMDs in Iraq. There are few people with as little credibility with the nations of the world than Powell today. You might as well appoint Bush to that position for all the good it will do.
No, we don't need liars with credibility problems as Secretary of State -- Clinton is a fine choice and will serve this country well.
and powell also backed who? NObama
I don't care who Powell backed, that is the same kind of guilt-by-association that was used with Ayers and Wright.
Actually, Powell was assured by the Bush administration that the information he was given was accurate. He even questioned it up until almost the moment he went before the UN. He was reassured it was good information. The Bush administration set him up and used him to push their illegal war. he was the only guy they had with the credibility to pull off the big lie.
I've heard the rumor he is being considered for Sec of Ed. He would make an excellent choice to pull us out of the unfunded "No child left behind" farce Bush pushed on our children.
Once again class, WMD was a universal belief by the world. He used them so there was no reason to believe he did not have more.
Obama should"nt go back on his word about picking Richardson for Secretary of State.Don't feel like you have to do the Clintons a favor because she ran a good race.Maybe its those pecks on the cheek that is going to earn her that spot.Put the person that is better qualified to better serve our country.Besides Richardson is clean shaven now.
C'mon Obama, 8 years of the Clinton circus was enough. Are you going to keep any of your campaign promises? Remember your own words...The time for change is NOW! Well this IS now, so change!!!!
Yep, since so far he's kept them all.
Mr. Tenny reed all your post, You talk in circles. also in one sentence you say pull out of Iraq , and pursue Al-Qeada, In above statement He's doing a grate job, earlier you said give him time?
Walter, the only CHANGE need is a change of the RESIDENT at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. That's a change that will be HEARD and WELCOMED around the world!
Excellent choice.
What the Heck....might as well bring Bill Clinton in the cabinet and have one big happy family again..... wah!
I believe he could have Obamas running mate as VP if I remember my consitution correctly but I think Obama read the list above.
You Republicans are going to cry about every single choice Obama makes no matter who he chooses. Get over it, you lost.
I am not a Republican for the record....
Hillary is just the person for Secretary of State. She will leave Israel alone as should be.For those that have not noticed.Take a long, hard look at the map of the middle east and see how much land mass is occupied by Arabs.99% of it and Israel has ONLY that one little spot which is only 1/4 th of the land God gave to them. The land God gave them, extended from the River of Egypt in the South,to the Euphrates in the North.Today,Israel occupies ONLY a tiny "SPOT" on the Border of Egypt ,on the River of Egypt.Arabs occupy the rest which is Israels territory.Let ANY arab nation that pleases, give the Palestinians a piece of the massive land THEY occupy.Benjamen Netanyahu is right. The Entire so called Arab World, don't want peace with Israel or simply a Palestinian State. They want israel "OUT" period and the U.S had "BETTER" leave Israel alone insofar as pressuring Them to compromise with Radical Arabs and SUPPORT Israel with ALL of our MIGHT and Strength.Call "ME" what ever you wish "BUT" If America does NOT STOP twisting Israels arm,and cast it's undaunted SUPPORT behind them.We are in for a REALLY bad time."DON'T" mess with Gods People.God CHOSE them to give "HIS WORD" to the World. And they did."DON'T MESS WITH GODS PEOPLE".America.YOU are ASKING for it if we keep this UP.Hillary is a definite friend of Israel.Obama had BETTER be.For the LAST time then.take a good look at ALL the Land Arabs occupy in the middle east,THEN ask yourself---Why are they making so much "fuss" over "ONE" little Country,"MOST" of which THEY already occupy, yet THEY speak of occupation. How MANY times has Israel ATTACKED any Arab nation without PROVOCATION?NONE. Or RETALIATION? Every TIME.
Even though this great country is going through some difficult times right now, I believe the USA has been and will always be blessed by god if we are supporters of Israel. People may not not them for self professing themselves as "Gods people" but they are and its our obligation as a country to preserve this nation for OUR well being as a country. With that being said, I DO NOT think Hillary is the right person for the job. Mr. Powell would be my choice. I`m a proud republican and yes, we lost the election but I got over it. I will support OUR president but will give my opinion when I feel he has made a wrong choice and/or screws up.
God did not give the land to the Jews. In fact he refused to let Moses set foot on it because he disobeyed him.
The Arabs have even more claim to it, since they occupied it up to 1945.
Israel only deserves our support if they earn it, and thus far they haven't done a damn thing in decades to earn such ridiculous loyalty. Israel is not a state and we owe them nothing, their problems are generally of no concern to the United States and what's best for them and our people supporting them is utterly irrelevant.
The Sec. of State's loyalties belong to the United States of America, his or her best interests are our best interests, not Israel, and not any other foreign country.
Frankly, screw Israel, we have enough problems of our own to worry about, let them deal with their own problems for a change instead of expecting us to always fix it for them.
Tenny, there is no reason to curse or be foul mouthed. That is just plain disgusting and enlightens no one. It is true that Christians tend to look with favor on the descendents of Abraham. Moses did not go into the Promised Land because he was disobedient and was punished for his disobedience. The liberated Israelites did enter the land promised to them by the same God Arabs recognize. These are a people of many dispersions. They return to their homeland only to be evicted again. As for the commentator who said the Jews only went there in 1945, I can only assume you are not old enough to truly appreciate the horror of what was done to them by the Hitlerites. Israel is our only friend in that region and deserves our continued support. It isn't just the amount of space they occupy. They have a strength that goes beyond physical presence. May God have mercy on us when we forget that they were chosen, even when they become disobedient. For the record, I am a Gentile Christian.
I haven't cursed...yet. I'm warming up to it though.
You claim to be a writer, What do You write Rap Lyrics?
And YOUR point bakka?
These are "HENIOUS CRIMES" you have ALLUDED to.Since MURDER is a Capitol Offense,Whats "YOUR" point? ANYBODY can post any UNSUBSTANTIATED drivel on an internet message board."IF" there was ANY connection to the Clintons with these deaths, are you so NAIVE to think, the REPUBLICANS would NOT have brought this full circle during Hillarys campaign and "especially" "AFTER" President Clinton left office.Take it else where,to someone that knows no better. This much carnage could NEVER be covered up.So whats YOUR point? Except,NOTHING.
Speaking of DRIVEL........
howard hofelich,
Double standard here. You call people who are pro-life "abortion murderers", but wish death on Clinton, Pelosi, Biden, and McCain! I doubt that this is your real name, but with all these death threats, I would expect the FBI to knock on your door at any minute.
Huh? McCain is anti-choice, what in the world are you babbling about in your hateful, ignorant rant?
She's talking about the post above her's.
I thought Obama's campaign was all about CHANGE. It's beginning to look like the same old Washington. So far, everyone is from past administrations (with a couple of exceptions).
What the heck??????
Don't know much about how government works, eh? I'll spell it out for you. There have been two groups of people with recent executive branch experience in the last 16 years: Clinton's, and Bush's.
You want Obama to mine the Bush administration for people, or Clinton? Because if you want people with experience that aren't 150 years old, chances are you've only got those two choices. That is unless you want to go to pick Bush 1 or Reagan people, or go all the way back to the Carter administration which means appointing people that haven't been in government for nearly three decades.
But no, I'm sure Republicans would find a way to cry about that, too.
Look, the change that Obama promised was in his policies, not the very standard and rational way you fill out your administration. Anyone who expected anything different than this doesn't know anything about how our government actually functions, this is all just a big game to them that they can comment on and @!$%# about.
This whole post is a joke book by the author to back his frivolous beliefs....its funny almost to comment, on everyon's post he doesn't like, for unlike any author seen to blog, ...roflmao ...for there is a post to back himself, and who he voted for....always desparation in the hour of doom, so it seems. Well Mr Tenny, hope you don't get blisters on your fingers backing your lost horse.
I didn't write this story, I don't work for MSNBC. You're literally laughing at your own inability to pay attention.
And he was elected because voters wanted a change???
Yep, and the voters will get change once he actually takes office. Cabinet officers answer to the President, they don't push their own agenda, they serve at the pleasure of the President. These are all highly qualified and experienced people and so far the only complaint against them are coming from Republicans, mostly because these are all high-profile Democrats.
This is amateur hour commentary around here.
"These are all highly qualified and experienced people."
Save the fiction for your screenwriting.
I specifically voted for Obama so I wouldn't have to listen to Hillary. Ooops. My Bad!
Umm, unless you work for a foreign government I seriously doubt you'll be hearing much of anything from our new Secretary of State.
Why is it that, on the news, we constantly heard from Sec. Rice, a woman who could not stop talking and could say anything but give a direct answer to any question? If the media made sure that we heard from Rice ad nauseam, do you think they'd give us a pass on Hilary? She can misdirect a question with the best of them. Good skill for a Secretary of State.
She hasn't been on the news or in the public spotlight hardly at all since she moved over from the NSC. And honestly that's fine, her job isn't to speak to us, it's to talk with foreign nations. The less we see of the Sec. of State, the more likely it is that they are out there doing their job.
and do you think that foeriegn countries want to listen to her?
Given the great relations we had with them when her husband was in office, and given the complete train wreck that Bush and his people have been, I'd say that it'll be anywhere between "welcomed with open arms" to "cautiously optimistic."
That's all we can really expect, from there on out we've got to earn it.
I finally get to reply directly to you. Hillary does not get carte Blanche because she was first lady for a president who supposedly was seen as a good world leader. She doesn't acquire knowledge through osmosis or telepathy she sat in on no high level meeting while being first lady. She sat with the ladies of the countries she visited . Get real she has no foreign affair experience. If she does and you know she does then I want facts real fact someplace I can read what she did on the world affairs level. Please enlighten me I love to listen and will be first to apologize when I'm wrong. Just because she sleeps with the president doesn't mean she knows everything he does.
This is CHANGE? This is HOPE? No. Instead, this deflates the enthusiasm, undermines the eloquence, and is a direct affront to those of us who voted FOR Barack but AGAINST Hillary. We thought it was clear that America and the world have had enough of the Clintons. She's a pompous nothing. Experience? WHAT experience? Gov. Bill Richardson has every ingredient you would look for in a secretary of state...Mrs. Clinton has exactly none of them. Aren't we in bad enough shape in this country now without throwing a Clinton in the faces of those tens of millions who voted against her? If this happens it will be the end of the Obama administration before it even begins. It's devastating. It's cataclysmic. It's wrong.
Nope, it's not change, it's Obama filling out his administration. The change comes once the man is sworn in and can actually do something to begin reversing the policies of Bush and the GOP. You have been paying attention, right?
Mr. Tenny,
Care to discuss the actual constitutional powers of the president. Your comments seem to place a lot more power in the president than he actually has. I hope you will read up on his actual powers. One area I believe the American voter will be watching closely once he takes office is the spending of the government, and if you look at the constitution you will see that the president has very limited control of that. I wish the new president luck but as we go into this depression I am convinced his focus right now is in the wrong place, Secretary of Treasury and the other econmic appointees should be where his appointment focus is, the investors need to know who he is going to appoint to these key positions, many feel the market is currently reacting to fears of this unknown direction Mr. Obama has planned. I do not feel Hillary is the best choice for Secretary of State, too much conflict within the hearts of Americans over this!
Charles,
I don't agree with your opinions, however, I will point out that yours seem to be the first repub comment that talks about issues rather than name-calling and slander. Good for you. I didn't think this type of person existed in the republican party. Kind of restores my faith a bit in what kind of people voted for McCain.

With all due respect Charles, I have a copy of the constitution sitting on my desk right this very second with all the amendments in my filing cabinet -- I'm not joking here at all -- do you?

To the contrary, the President has a lot of control over spending via his/her veto power. President Clinton used it with a Republican congress -- a showdown that resulted in a government shutdown before the GOP finally gave up on excess spending -- to give this country its first balanced budget of the modern era. Immediately after he left office with the same Republican congress under Bush, that surplus turned into a $500+ billion deficit.
If he or she has the guts and resolve, the President can control the budget. It has been done before.
Secretary of Treasury and the other econmic appointees should be where his appointment focus is, ..
From what I gather neither the Treasury or Fed are open right away. I seem to remember reading that one of them isn't open until 2009 and that Obama would be likely to keep both Paulson and Bernanky on until at least 2010 because changing them out right now would be a setback. I agree with that because they still answer to Obama even if they play for the other team. They may be the wrong men for the job, but the reality is that they have the job now and given what they are dealing with, now is not the time to replace them. I'm sure they are good men at heart and will do the right thing for the time being, and adapt themselves to the new President's agenda.
I have faith that they'll keep doing their jobs and work with Obama until he is ready to replace them.
This is the change that all of you suckers wanted? We have another Clinton administration with obama as president. ...
Yep, that's just what I feel like--a sucker, a sick-to-my-stomach sucker! Totally demoralized by this pick.
Time to face it. We really only have a one-party system in this country. That is the corporate party. Republican, Democrat = basically the same except for the rare Dr. Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich. And after all, the Clintons are the most popular members of the Corporate Party.
Sorry Tenny, I disagree with you on Paulson and Bernaky, both should be replaced immediately.
Ohhhhhhh goodie, I can't wait.... They hated eachother 4 mos ago. No best of friends. This should be great. At least she will not run for Pres in 2012.... you betcha
Buddy, sir. i believe the opposite. if Israel would leave us alone, the US would be relieved. read the history of AIPAC. not to mention a Memorandum of Understanding recently being made w/ Israel to provide them 30 billion through 2010 and 200 million in weaponry per year. research the Kurkik-Raifa pipeline. Israel strong-armed the house for votes. in turn, getting money, power and support to defeat Israel's long-time enemy (Iraq) in order to re-establish an oil line to their coast. aka - more money for them, cheaper oil for us. the problem is the line runs through Fallugah. upon AIPAC's suggestions, im sure the US will having no problem w/ the disappearance of this "terrorist" stronghold. Syria is also not a fan of the reinstatement of the pipeline. but, just recently, Syria now has WMDs. ironic. clinton and Israel are two peas in a pod.
You Have got to be kidding
