Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

"Corporations insist riding on private planes is not a lavish perk, but rather a necessary security requirement for top officials that also helps them be more efficient.".    Are they kidding?  Regarding the return of "leased aircraft", what is preventing them from "leasing other aircraft" as soon as the watching eyes are averted?  The arrogance of these CEO's is appaling beyond definition.  Save the jobs, put the companies in receivership, under new management.  Keep a close eye on all companies that are "too big to fail".

Let's see: the executives want the American people to bail them out, but fly 3 separate jets to get to DC.  Jetpooling--not a bad idea.  Gee, they might actually have to talk to each other, too.

We demanded as voters a change in Washington and we got it at the poles and we as people have given this administration (that is not yet in) the mandate to change things.

We can demand it from any huge corporation by:

        1) not buying the junk they have been producing ,sell off there huge non-production buildings- the towers of excess capitalism that these CEO's go to work in to generate some cash for new production facilitiies. Recall all fossil fuel-vehicles and remelt and salvage parts for new cars and trucks so they don't fill up landfills and rust-recyle what is out there.

        2) organizing marches infront of the buildings of these auto corporations in protest to draw media coverage to the problem-get the unions involved if you have too . We bought this industry and YES WE CAN run the industry.

3)having these same CEO's fired and  tell ther Board of director they are no longer needed because we just bought the company.WE would own the auto industry now.

        4) then they should nationalize the oil industry. Once the industry is running again then sell it back to a responsible company with stipulations to bring down the deficit. In Canada the government had developed the natural resources  and they are called "crown corporations" which ran very efficient and the money generated helped pay for the healthcare system until we had the conservatives come in and they sold it to some US corporation which was a huge mistake because natural resources are for everyone not just corporate barons. (oh by the way Canada is not a communist country by international standards and we have a surplus and we are in the process of balancing a budget)

        4) hire an auto industry/renewable engery czar to run it, get managers who are at production level/engineers from these corporations and develop their own government business plan and say goodbye to any manager above the line of production manager and the R&D engineers. 5) they need to downsize from the top down and right size and then keep it there to damp down costs, then ramp up production and the worker while keeping the layers of management flat.

Its just like in medical field- you should be able to run flat, so get rid of all the unnecessary insurance companies that add to the overhead, revamp the health and human services (too big and bloated) right size that then bring in a federal health system that is fully integrated and run well.Hire a health care czar to run the industry federally.

Our whole world economy runs on energy and resources therefore it should be nationalized for the good of all people and any excess energy/natural products can be sold and pumped into a federally run health care system so the government would not have to raise taxes, so now is the time to buy out the energy, water rights, mineral rights etc so that profitering will be avoided at the expense of others. Our health care should not be tied to our jobs. In Canada we can be laid off and still see a doctor. You have to be healthy inorder to work, retrain into new industries and be productive.

(((Shareholders of public companies are also going to have to demand that CEO's and Executives accept their positions just like any other employee, NO GOLDEN parachute! Poor performing employees are often escorted out of a building with a box and their personal belonging, why should executives be any different? If they make decisions which ultimately result in the demise of a company and THOUSANDS of people suffer and then lose of their livelihoods the former heads should be cut-off immediately and sued.)))

BINGO.  I totally agree.  Especially when people are either losing their jobs or facing a year with little, if any, pay raises and diminished bonuses.  And the stockholders don't care, as long as they still get their dividends.

Giving the car industry bail out money is like flushing it down the toilet. Will the money be used to save the worker's jobs? I doubt it... the money will go to supporting the exorbetant pay of the CEO's. Just once I would like to hear a possible solution that involved lowering the pay scale of the CEO's. I think the big three should, as someone earlier said so eloquently, get their heads out of the collective arses... and try to get a clue. No one want's to throw anymore bailout money to greedy corporate execs. Actually, I am for sending a bill to AIG for inapropriate use of the funds they received. It's just got to stop!

Bad PR move by the execs, but look who is flinging the mud - the same politicians who defend Nancy Pelosi's use of military aircraft to commute to her home in California.  And don't forget that Nancy insisted on having a Boeing 767, not just a Learjet, making the argument that she needed to fly non-stop for "security reasons".  (Stopping for fuel at a random military base is somehow a security risk?  The politicians are condemning the CEOs for doing exactly what they themselves do.

I just wonder if we bail them out and I'm sure we will.  Then this bail out allows for more cars to be made (hybrid, electric or whatever).  How many of us are going to run out and buy new cars?  I bought a new car 3 years ago and I plan on driving that thing until I have to Barney Rubble it.  Plus, with all the bail outs I'm sure that our taxes are going to be raised and I am living tight as it is.  So for me and most of the people I know new cars regardless of how awesome they are will not be an option, unless they are next to free.  So my point is (sorry tangent) who will buy the cars to payback the bail out or loan and will this only be a short term fix for a long term problem?

Perhaps CEOs should follow the Iaococca model and sacrifice their compensation packages so that factory workers will also accept cuts in their wage/benefit package.  $1.00 a year until companies have fulfilled any obligations to taxpayers is certainly not the hardship for CEOs that it is for workers.  And this would also be true for the financial sector as well.

I'm trying to figure out exactly where the secuity risk is for these CEO's if they fly commerical.  The same lemo that drops them off at the private side of an airport can just as easily take them to the commericial terminal.  I'd like to think the risk of kidnapping/harm inside a commercial terminal is low these days given all the money we've spent on TSA and other airport secuirity.   Since you repeat the process on the other end, where is the secuity risk?   I guess an irate car owner with a 1 yr old lemon could attack them with spoon while they're waiting to board, but other than that I'm perplexed.  Frankly I would think someone who plans to harm or kidnap a CEO would prefer the private side of an airport... less security.

                              Follow the money$$$$$

AIG owns a company that leases planes.   The company: International Lease Finance Corporation.

CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy and other company wonks and private investors (unnamed) believe the 10 billion dollars of "their" purchase price is fair to help out the ailing AIG.

As of November 14, 2008 International Lease Finance Corporation was not only owned by AIG but also part owned by General Motors and Cerberus Capital Management.

Hmmmm.    I wonder who GM could have leased their corporate jets from?   I wonder who Cerberus Capital Management could have leased their corporate jets from?

Check these facts folks and see what you "uncover".   GM- Cerberus. Cerberus- GMAC. Cerberus- Chrysler. GM- International Lease Finance Corporation.  Cerberus Capital Management, L. P.- International Lease Finance Corporation.
