There have been some pretty nasty banners waved around by the town hall crowds protesting the Democrats' health overhaul plans in recent days, but none reaches the level of that held up today in Hagerstown, Md., where Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) sought to sell the reform strategy for a second straight day. "Death to Obama," one protester had written on "a small, handwritten cardboard sign," according to The Hill.

These aren't health care protests, they are anti-Democratic mobs. Roll Call reported that one Democratic congressman was actually assaulted, and another confirmed report has the right-wing angry mobs showing up with loaded firearms. Signs bearing swastikas are common place and now we've got signs with death threats to the President of the United States.

Why was the person holding that sign not arrested by the Secret Service?

When are Republican leaders going restore democracy by pulling the plug on these fake, violent mobs?

Why they won't pull the plug on this, one they are mostly funded by the big insurance companies, two this is what they have left lies to incite hate and hate to incite lies,I don't think there is a Republican leader who dares stray from the madness in fear they will be eaten alive by their own.

You have people like Glen Beck, and Rush who might as well just jump up and put on a robe and say what they really want to say that they are so angry not because of what the President does, but because of what the President is.To have Rush slimebaugh play the song on his show that calls the President of the United States a magic niggro to me is a call for his firing but hes still there, why because so many of these right-wing nuts feel the same way and not a one of them can grow a set to say what they tip toe around.I fear this will escalate as long as no one on the Republican side steps forward to halt the lies on all that is fanning the flames, the death panel lie,the abotions paid with tax dollars lie,and the list goes on,and untill they crawl out from behind that pill popping joke who seems to be the voice for the party it will continue, but this is just my view on the nonsense that is taking place.

Many of the anti-reform hecklers have been carrying signs portraying swastikas, SS references, and comparisons of Obama to Hitler. The same types of hate-inciting rants took place at the tea-bag events previously. People calling Obama a fascist, or a socialist, or a foreign-born Muslim, or a lower primate, or the anti-Christ.

These folks have absolutely no interest in having a serious, rational debate about health care. All they want to do is obstruct progress, prevent the discussion from occurring, and vent their hatred about that scary black man in the White House.

After all the hate and screaming displayed at these town hall meetings I think that in the future our representatives in Washington will simply skip the town hall meetings altogether. Who in their right minds would want to put up with at that BS. End result – American democracy takes a step backwards.

What the democrats should do is muster up the courage to pass a health care package on their own. Elections have consequences – by pass the republicans who, if the situation was reversed, wouldn’t care one iota what the democrats thought.

What the democrats lack is not good ideas but the courage to act decisively.

It doesn't matter whether you are Black, White, Republican, Democrat, Liberal or "other", the fact is that the economy is in the dumper, the health care plan sucks, socialism is just around the corner, and our Great Country is no longer the "World Power". I will say that I think Obama is being blamed entirely too much for the whole mess, however he is a big part of the problem. I've said it before on NV and I will say it again. Even though I voted for him, I have been sorely dissapointed in the Presidents job performance. Like most Americans who voted for Obama, I was sick and tired of the Bush Administration and thought that this would be the way to a brighter future. I was wrong. Not that I think Obama is a bad person, he is just not qualified for the job. He started out ok, by surrounding himself with people in the know and seasoned politicians. Then, just as quickly he became a know it all with an attitude towards anyone that differed with his opinion. I think that it is more than just the "right wing nuts" that have a problem with what is going on. Despite what the "polls" may say, unemployment is rampant. Peoples 401K accounts are dwindling. Food and fuel costs are up. People are losing homes. We turned to Obama for help out of this crap and what did we get? NOTHING! Meanwhile, he is sneaking out for burgers and having beer parties with cops and professors when he should be sitting in the office with some number crunchers trying to fix this sh*thole of a mess that has been created. Obama needs to listen to the people and feel their need.

You're a liar and a plant. The right is now trying desperately to make people think they're not just a group of ignorant racists. This fantasy person you've invented does not exist. Your line regarding "sneaking out for burgers and having beer parties" shows that you're just another ignorant plant.

We're tired of the mind control and you need to be called out on it.

Thomas Floyd to what great country do you refer? Do you not realize this country has been broke for a long time? Folks like you act as if Obama is the one to blame. The man has been in office not even a year and all a lot of you can do is bitch. Obama is not the friggin social service. Common sense should have told anybody that eventually the bubble would burst. Did you believe this country could print and spend on shi.. like wars, etc and not eventually have to pay the piper. Folks have been living on credit and buying stuff they knew they could not afford. When the sh.. hits the fan, they come crying; akin to big corporations and business. There should be some personal responsibility. You say you voted for Obama, I highly doubt it. Not qualified for the job? You think McCain and Palin were? It is going to take a long time to fix this mess.

Neither of you have completed your course in reading and comprehension. Netprophet and ming. I said in my post that I thought he got too much of the blame but that I thought he was a big part , (note PART) of the problem. I am a liar? How can you call me a liar when all I speak is the truth. There have been more than one article about Obama sneaking out to have burgers in the middle of the afternoon and the beer party with the cop and professor was a national headline. I am an ignorant plant? Mind control? It sounds like you two are the ones who's minds are being controled because you are the ones eating the current administrations sh*t sandwich and smacking your lips and enjoying the taste. Tell me one thing in my post that is un-true and give me proof and I will apologize. However, to stoop to calling me names like liar and ignorant plant only shows your own ignorance and stupidity. No, I don't think McCain and Palin were qualified, that's why I didn't vote for them. I voted for Obama because I thought he WAS qualified, and as I said in my post, if either of you idiots had read it, I was wrong. It's no wonder the government runs all over you passive idiots.

BTW, he was elected because he said that he WOULD fix it. He hasn't. Quit being such a crybaby and think everybody is picking you him just because he is black. He is a screw up and everybody is afraid to admit they were wrong. Well, I was wrong and if I could take my vote back I would and I wouldn't vote at all.

maybe you need to refer more specifically to whom you speak. In my post, I did not call you a rude name unlike your post where you refer to others as idiots. You must be one smart man to think everyone who does not agree with you are idiots. Sneaking out to get burgers? Since when do you need to sneak out to eat? I thought that goes without saying, that one is entitled to eat or do you expect Obama to be chained at his desk working night and day to fix America's problems? I would rather have the president of this country eating and enjoying a burger and drinking a beer or two than lying about weapons of mass destruction to start a friggin war using our tax dollars. Just imagine the amount of money that could have been saved if that scenario had not happened? If you don't want to vote in the future that is your perogative, but don't come moaning and crying when things are not going your way. Sounds to me you are the one who is the crybaby. I had enough sense to realize no one man is going to fix anything and chance are if anything is ever fixed it will take a lot longer than 4 years. This country has a whole lot of problems that go a lot deeper than losing houses and jobs. That is evident by hateful and fearmongering messages and yes racist bull@!$%#. There, I said it.

But he was elected on the premise that he WOULD fix the problems. That is the whole point and you called me a liar when you said that I didn't vote for him. Which I did. Things are actually going great my way. I have a very secure position in my job, and a substantial bank account and have no personal complaints. It is the thousands of other fellow Americans that I "cry" for. Thomas Jefferson said it best. " When people fear the government, that is tyranny. When the government fears the people, that is liberty". I don't think I am smart, but I am practical. I found in this walk of life that in general, the ones who scream racism the loudest, are usually the most racist. I will not make anymore comments on this issue as your ignorance has shown itself in fine color and that was my point. Enjoy your freedom while you can, it may not be here tomorrow.

Ming, you are right, and I, like you, do not believe that that person voted for Obama. People who voted for him are intelligent enough to know that the enormous problems he was coming into office with could not be fixed in six months.

It amazes me that people have the gall to mock our president about how he spends his time. He is undoubtedly the most involved, "working" president we have ever had in my lifetime.

It doesn't matter whether you are Black, White, Republican, Democrat, Liberal or "other", the fact is that the economy is in the dumper..

          Thomas Floyd,

Which is primarily the fault of Republican deregulation of the financial industry in the 90s. It's not partisan to blame the people who actually were responsible for a good chunk of this mess even if that group is exclusively identified by their ideology.

          the health care plan sucks

It will significantly bring down costs and reach near 100% coverage for all Americans. What sucks about that?

..socialism is just around the corner..

That's an unsubstantiated claim repeated by people who simply don't know any better. Socialism is defined as the state ownership of an entire industry. What industry does the federal government own? What industry is the current administration arguing that the federal government should own? In what industry does the federal government own more than 2-3 companies at all, and which of those companies does the federal government plan to own permanently?

..and our Great Country is no longer the "World Power"

It's still a military, economic, and cultural super power, though after the embarrassment of Iraq I'd hardly call it a great country these days. The only thing our country has lost is the respect of the rest of the world and our respect for it, and it was a Republican president that cost us that. And every time our Democratic president goes out into the world to get that respect back, all I hear from conservatives is whining about how weak it makes us look.

They can't have it both ways, and you don't get respect by bullying people.

I will say that I think Obama is being blamed entirely too much for the whole mess, however he is a big part of the problem. I've said it before on NV and I will say it again.

Yes, he is a part of the problem, he's got no balls. He needs to tell Senate Republicans to get lost, and tell Senate Democrats to pass health care by reconciliation rules so that we can get it done and move on to other pressing matters. (Republicans did not hesitate to do this when they were in the majority and neither should we.) He needs to stop waffling on the public option which was a centerpiece of his health care reform campaign platform and he needs to stop threatening liberals in the House. What liberals in the House want is exactly what the President said he wanted when he was campaigning, it isn't us that are going out on a limb here and it's not us going back in our promises, the President is running towards the middle just like every Democratic coward of a President tends to do.

And it never works, because nothing short of complete capitulation will ever satisfy the increasingly extremists and hardline Republican party.

The GOP doesn't want to compromise on health care reform, they want it to fail, just like Rush Limbaugh wants America to fail.

          You can't compromise with "no".

Like most Americans who voted for Obama, I was sick and tired of the Bush Administration and thought that this would be the way to a brighter future.

Speak for yourself, I don't vote with such shallow goals. I voted for President Obama because I believed he was the best man for the job.

Despite what the "polls" may say, unemployment is rampant.

The reports on unemployment aren't "polls" in that regard.

Food and fuel costs are up.

The price of gas is going up because the price of oil is going up. The price of oil is going up first of all because it's summer, and people travel more in the summer, and also because the oil futures speculators are getting back into the game of artificially inflating the price of oil for personal profit. The price of good goes up when the price of gas goes up because food has to be shipped everywhere by truck or plane, both of which use gas.

What does that have to do with health care reform, angry right-wing mobs, "Death to Obama" signs, or anything?

We turned to Obama for help out of this crap and what did we get? NOTHING!

Obama is President, he is not god. He cannot force Congress to pass legislation and there is only so much he can do after just 6+ months on the job. Hell, Congress is currently on a month-long vacation, what do you expect him to do right now?

Seriously man, grow up. The second worst recession in American history wasn't going to be solved in six months, not by Obama or by anyone else.

          You sound terribly naive.

He's got 3.5 years left, so let's calm down and put our brains back in our heads for a while.

Obama needs to listen to the people and feel their need.

Wait, he should have....sympathy..? BUT THAT'S EVIL! OMG I'M TELLING!!!

          *sigh*

A majority of Americans want health care reform, and 78% want a public option. He's trying to reform health care and for the most part has been pushing for a public option. That is listening to the people.

Funny thing... the only significant role Obama has played has been as the dude that asked Congress to figure it out.

You know, 'cause he's not a legislator, being in the executive branch and all. I suppose the right have forgotten this, after 8 years of blatant disregard of the basics that we're supposed to learn about in 8th grade civics class.

I wouldn't let it bother too us much folks. The reason all this noise is being made is because the birthers, the deathers and the ones pulling their strings are soiling their pants in sheer terror right now.

I know the morons on the right are rattled because of racism, but the corporate healthcare thugs are terrified too. We will win if we are willing to spread the truth and challenge their BS.

We are up against a huge, powerful industry. They won't go down without a fight, and we should not shy away from the fight. We should post links to websites that tell the truth about reform wherever there is a battle. After all, the truth is what they fear the most.

If you do this they will call you every name in the book, but that should not bother us. They are lying thugs, who cares what they think?

The only cure for lies is the truth, and if we don't spread the truth, who will?

Here's a site that can be linked that really pisses them off when I post it, so it must be effective.

          http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/main/2009/07/deconstructing-the-right-wing-lies-health-bill.html

Keep the faith and fight the good fight. Laugh when these fools call you vile names, for thou knowest that thou art kicking their lying asses with thine holy word of health care reform when thou spreadest the truth and the facts.

Umh...Thomas Floyd,  let us see, George Bush was in office 4 years, and then we went and re-elected hiim for 4 more.  He and his cronies destroyed our credibility with 99 % of the world, spent, spent, spent, spent, conveniently re-interpreted some our laws...AND YET, YOU SEEM TO EXPECT THAT OBAMA CAN ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS IN SEVEN MONTHS?  Are you for real?  Or do you just have a short memory.  A few "mea culpas" for the previous administration do not absolve you from being extremely short sighte d, intolerant and a closet neo-con.  Umh, Umh, Umh...you seem to have a good mind...such a waste not to use it.
