CVS Refuses To Sell Texas Man Emergency Contraception For His Wife, Suggests He's A Rapist

A Texas man has enlisted the ACLU to help him sue CVS for gender discrimination after a pharmacist refused to sell him emergency contraception.

Jason Melbourne had already visited four pharmacies in search of Plan B for his wife when he was referred to a CVS in Mesquite, Texas, some 15 miles away from his home. They had one box left:

But when he finally got there, the overnight pharmacist, Minni Matthew, told Melbourne she wasn’t going to sell it to him.

In order for him to buy the meds, the pharmacist said, she’d need to talk to and see the ID of his wife, who was at home with their two young children. He asked why, and she pointed to the fine print on the medication’s box, which says it can only be sold to someone age 17 or older. Melbourne pointed out that he was well over 17.

“I’ve bought this plenty of times in my life, and it’s never been a problem,” he said. “Are you telling me every other place I’ve bought it from has been wrong?”

Didn’t matter, Matthew said, since the medicine obviously wasn’t for him.

“Why don’t you show me the law that says you can’t sell this to a man?” Melbourne replied.

The situation got worse from there. Melbourne put his wife on the phone and even Googled the medication to show the pharmacist there was no law against selling it to a man. But “she didn’t want to see it,” he said.

That’s when a male pharmacy technician informed Melbourne that they didn’t want to sell emergency contraception to men because they might be giving it to “rape victims.”

Not sure if these people are members of the American Taliban, or just @!$%#s who need to be fired because they won't do the job they are being paid to do. Either way they need to go.

The far right has emboldened the American Taliban, neo-nazi's and neo-con's to come out of the closet and show who they really are.

Do you want one to be your President, if so vote republican.

Ummm sorry but W T F!!!!

CVS is way overstepping and so is that pharmacist. There was no reason to supposed he had committed any crime! I am so tired of pharmacists who can and can not purchase medications.

In all fairness I can't hold CVS responsible as they do carry the product. All fault lies with the pharmacist involved. He/she should be removed from a position where such a decision can be made.

Every day we witness the increase in stupidity, abuse of power and control, hubris, ignorance, and bigotry in every possible form.

Just when I think it can't get any more stupid, bingo, the bar is lowered.

I hope Mr. Melbourne and his wife end up owning CVS - all of it. That ought to send a message that even the most stupendously self-righteous can understand.

In time, of course CVS will back off from this position, and hopefully fire their employees who took it upon themselves to represent their "moral bias" as that of their employers.

When I work, I certainly do not discuss politics or religion with my employers or my customers, and certainly do not service anyone differently if I believe they are different from me in any of those ways.

Would a Jewish cashier at Safeway refuse to ring up my pork sausage? Would a Hindu behind the counter at 7-11 refuse to sell me a hot dog? Somehow, I think not.

IF it were not for my prescriptions being automatic..and Cheap(insurance) co-pay .. I'd stop going to them.. I'm 65.. and I have been going to this one CVS for as long as it has been there .. at least 15-17 years.. and the same woman ask for my Driver's License whenever I buy cigs.. no other store does.. so I stopped buying all products sold at CVS..except meds..

Also, one other note.. and I am sure many stores do this.. the CVS I go to get my meds.. is a 'Test Store'.. they raise the prices in this store first for the area.. and if the products sell.. then they raise the prices in the other stores around the area..
